Science is fundamentally important to me, it represents progression in time; the more we research and experiment themore we are able to understand the world we live in. I love science because it attempts to explain every single action that ispossible in ways which can be so abstract as quantum mechanics or as initially perplexing as evolution. From a young age Iwas fascinated by looking at the very big, thinking of the stars and planets in the ever expanding cosmos.

As I grew older Ilooked at animal and how they move, live and adapt to their ever changing environments; seeing the gradual advancementsin an animal's physiology. Soon I was introduced to atoms and molecules and how they interact; I was learning about this'new world' literally at my own finger tips. As I discover worlds within worlds and I move towards the minute, I am still beingreminded every night that the world never sleeps and that there is still so much happening in the darkness of the night'ssky. My A-levels choices came from the fact that science has so much to offer and fascinates me so broadly. This wasrecognised by my school in that I am currently the president of the school's science society which requires me to organisefortnightly talks and encourage as many people as possible to come to engage with the amazing research presented ineach talk.

I, myself, have presented a talk on Tissue Nano-transfection in which I demonstrated how the procedure worksand its possible applications. In physics I have done extra research into the Standard Model, going way beyond thespecification requires. Furthermore I investigated the Kardashev Scale which classifies any living race based on how muchenergy they can harness which subsequently allowing me to present the topic to the school’s debating society with motion‘this house believes the human race will never become a galactic civilisation’. This also required me to use information frommy research tasks in physics as to the life cycle of stars and spotting possible habitation around red dwarves like ProximaCentauri, as well as a range of biotic factors for humans. Among the various books I have read, one of my favorites was'Adventures in Human Being' by Gavin Francis where I found the chapter on the brain and electroconvulsive therapyparticularly fascinating due to the varied effects it has on each person, showing the uniqueness in every human despitehow similar we are. Amongst other I have also read 'The Quantum Universe' by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw. They haveboth done wonders in explaining what is arguably the most complicated topic in science today; presenting new ways toconceptualise insane ideas such as the superposition of particles, using clocks to elegantly illustrate how the world worksin ideal situations. In addition to my studies I am part of the Combined Cadet Force; standing as a Flight Sargent (Head of RAF) for mycontingent.

This allows me to acquire leadership and teamwork skills which I can apply in my every day life; this alsobecomes utilised in my Duke of Edinburgh award where I am undertaking my gold level, having already completing thebronze and silver levels. With the National Citizen's Service I have been able to undertake various roles, not only being anambassador but also a member of the National Youth Board where I am currently working to increase the number of youngpeople taking part in social action. Over the past year I have undertaken two social action projects, raising money for adementia home's garden as well as raising awareness for mental health and attempting to eliminate stigma. I am able to managed my studies, further reading and numerous other activities whilst still maintaining my love for science. I constantly strive for a deep yet broad knowledge across all sciences and wish to enthuse people about the world we livein. For these reasons I believe that I am very well suited to studying Natural Sciences at university
