The Dependence Of My Future On My Aspirations

I wish to pursue a career in financial services and I am confident about that. I believe, that in a rapidly developing nation, like India, the availability of credit is extremely important for financing the aspirations of rapidly expanding businesses. This however provides a huge opportunity to analyse the risks associated while extending credit to worthwhile. To get a hold of the complexity involved in all investment decisions made in this global economy, a first-hand working knowledge and exposure of banking and investment concepts is essential. Thus, at this stage in my career, Masters in Finance programme motivates me to equip with the advanced financial skills necessary to provide sound advices to enterprises in financial areas such as corporate finance, M & As, valuation, and capital markets. Post my Masters in Finance, I would like to pursue a career as a financial consultant. Learning the Economics of money markets my work as a consultant will offer me varied exposure to different business verticals. Working globally post-Master in Finance for at least 4 to 5 years is essential before I return to my country, India. With these qualification and trans-geographical exposure, I can look forward to achieving a senior position in the Financial Services in India. In 10 years, my career goal is to be performing the advisory role to the Government of India.

In order to be able to successfully achieve this it is necessary for me to get my finance fundamentals right. To get a hold of the complexity involved in all investments decisions made in this global economy, a first-hand working knowledge and exposure of banking and investment concepts is essential. The credit analysis provides a great opportunity to learn about business and to break down its financial soundness to maximum detail. I plan to gain a first-hand understanding of how to structure new loans and perform reviews of existing assets. With my strong technological background, I believe, this role will provide me the much needed exposure to understand businesses from a completely different focal point. It’s a known fact that businesses and banks are growing more global than ever before. The availability of credit is no longer restricted to domestic markets. However the fiscal policies laid down by Governments are crucial in determining the free flow of Capital. Also, tampering the delicate monetary system of a developing country is always full of catastrophic risks to its citizens and the social structure as a whole. To be able to work in an International Financial Institution like World Bank or Asian Development Bank is a mid term goal I personally aspire to achieve. The primary reason being the enormous power they have to impact the lives of the most needy through advise on sound economic policies and alerting Governments to risks and pitfalls. This is the long term dream I plan to work for all throughout my life.

I have always looked towards the Syracuse University as the institution which has truly propagated the concept of Free Markets to the real modern world. Having a limited prior knowledge in finance, I believe Whitman School's teaching philosophy of active engagement with professors will be crucial for me to acquire a sound knowledge of finance & economics fundamentals. I look forward to long debates and active involvement in peer discussions all of which will form the core of all my learning. Also, Whitman provides an excellent flexibility in curriculum thereby providing freedom to focus specifically on individual's field of interest like Investments, Risk Management, Corporate Finance etc. The excellent community building exercises, numerous workshops and the delight of getting a chance to contribute back is greatly satisfying. A vibrant community of New York is an added advantage. In conclusion, Whitman experience combines everything in a manner that provides an opportunity for a perfect confluence of my dreams and the means to achieve them.
