Issue #1:

The main economical issue piracy causes is fundamentally disabling the rightful owner/s of the content from obtaining any funds compared to a legitimate, official purchase. Statistically, the United States’ motion picture, sound recording, business software, and entertainment software production facilities lost above 20 billion dollars in 2005 due to digital piracy. Including another 2 billion dollars regarding retailers, summing up to $22 billion that year.

Adobe Photoshop is unquestionably recognised as one of the most expensive extensions to an individuals computer, but even this significant application is not safe from the epidemic of piracy. In one day, on average, Adobe photoshop will develop a loss of $18.7 million, as one copy is worth $999.

The country with the highest rate of piracy is Vietnam, at 94%. It continues as the country with the most substantial rate of piracy in the world. China, with 92%, is followed as the country with the second-highest piracy rate.

How Issue #1 Can Be Concluded:

By taking action in releasing the content as a cheaper-standard to customers, can most definitely minimise the amount of loss in revenue through software piracy. Reducing the price will both attract attention to consumers, and result in more revenue to the owner, solving each economic problem.

Issue #2:

Software piracy also interacts with law-breaking business, theoretically stating this is an act of theft, and you are stealing from the owner and diminishing their potential income. This factor is an ethical, and responsibility issue, both for the culprit, and the customer.

Indicated under the Copyright Act 1968, it is listed an offence to: “knowingly import, possess, sell, distribute or commercially deal with an infringing copy, offer for sale infringing copies of computer programs, and transmit a computer program to enable it to be copied when received.” This is directed towards the operations of software piracy. Penalties up to 5 years imprisonment and fines of up to $250 000 can apply to the culprit. Though if the specific case is bad enough, the individual could be sent to the Crown Court, where the outcome could impose an unlimited fine amount and up to 10 years imprisonment.

Some other sub-standard elements can arrive with the instalment and download of pirated software. In addition to legal consequences, the consumer could experience online viruses and a corrupt device.

How Issue #2 Can Be Concluded:

One method that could be the solution for this predicament is one that the owners of the overall internet browser could participate in. They could take part in the banning and takedown of websites that are reported as “providing infringing copies of media”. The vendor could then be located, and penalties will be applied. This action could benefit both the security of each user and minimise the amount of infringing-content sellers on the internet-software.

Issue #3:

The final major difficulty of software piracy is the increasing availability of infringing media. The amount of unique methods an individual could partake in to pirate software is substantial, making this issue an ethical problem to face.

Soft-lifting, one of the most harmful and common techniques used to infringe media, involves an individual purchasing a single licensed copy of software and continuing to load that software file onto several other devices, violating licensing terms. This method could be recognised as “AirDrop” sharing, and usually takes place on a schooling campus.

The second and most familiar procedure to pirate content is online piracy, taking place on the internet. When an illegal website is constructed, when entered, it will present a download button that will immediately copy the file and deliver it to the individuals device when it is clicked. This is the fastest-growing, and most dangerous method of downloading copied files, as malware and viruses are hidden in many sites that provide the pirated-media, leaving many people with a ruptured gadget.

How Issue #3 Can Be Concluded:

The many distinctive strategies to combat these methods for piracy are extensive. I thought that one way to triumph each issue above was to:

  1. Ensure all websites created go through the eyes of the overall browser-owner (Google, Bing) before that web-page is released to the public. This will manufacture a restricted web, and secure location on an individuals device.
  2. Install a compulsory software-update on all devices of each electronics brand that targets files on the computer, and if necessary, eliminates any potential, or gathered pirated media found.
