During the course of our lifetimes, we are urged to make momentous and difficult decisions that either shape us or break us. One of the major life decisions I have made along the way was moving from home to go to college. Coming to a new city where I knew absolutely no one was quite hard as well as adjusting to a new environment . This decision helped me become solely independent and worthy of myself with the involvement of critical thinking insights.

There are, however, many factors that contributed to this life making decision. Being the youngest in my family and being the first born in the United States, I felt the pressure of making my family proud by being a first generation college student. Not only that, but seeking an escape from my chaotic home, and my desire to come to college so far away addressed my disposition for adventure. I didn’t think I was fully ready to move out and be on my own already but I knew I had to make the decision of either staying home or going to another city to continue my education. It was a bit hard on me because I knew I would regret staying home and not have given myself the chance to try something new . Because I would rather regret moving and trying something new than regret never giving myself the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone. Overall, I wanted to experience independence, learn to work for my own things and be a young, responsible individual.

Crucial to this process was learning how to separate my emotional responses to being attached to home from a more rational analysis of putting myself first and education. Through this experience, I had to develop cognitive skills; everyday skills that involve critical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving etc. such as Dualism, right and wrong answers. Authorities know the right answers. My lack of sense and inability to deal with a difficult situation really triggered me but, also inspired me to overcome a difficult situation. While seeking for answers, I reached out to my older sister for orientation. She helped me think through the process with her wise knowledge. She never had the opportunity to go and adventure out while pursuing her education goal. she didn’t have the funds, resources and support to do so, whereas I had all three and more. I also took in account my parents education level and what they did to get where they are at. I knew I would have a great support sth my family being there for me, whether it was a great decision or not; they had a tremendous influence with my decision. In other words, I just had to make up my mind and outweigh the positives and negatives of this life changing situation. As I now look back on my decision to leave Modesto and to further my education in Sacramento, this has been by far the best decision I've ever made. I have solely become more independent and have learned so much in and outside the classrooms; things I would have never learned if I was still living at home. Moving out from my town has brought me many unseen and memorable friendships, connections that can help me get somewhere in my career goal, and self-growth most importantly. I have learned to rely on myself, manage work and study, spend my time efficiently, and spend money wising. I now look back at it and realize that I would not have changed a single thing about my transitioning. However, if there is one thing I would change differently from this journey has been the expensive economic side of moving out and away from home and perhaps would have saved more before actually doing so. If I was given the option of moving away from home once more, I most likely would take it and do what’s best for me. Primarily, because I need to evaluate myself as a person and know what’s best for me but most importantly see what I am capable of accomplishing.

While my experience of moving out of my chaotic home has been nothing, but a new journey and critical-decision making, it has brought out a different life perspective and outcome of my life. It hasn’t been easy but with every struggle one takes, there’s recompense. If it wasn’t for that extra push my family gave me and influenced my decision making, I’d probably be back home looking at my life in a completely different aspect of life.
