What is a Wolf? Do Wolves exist? A wolf is a wild carnivorous mammal that mainly forms the largest member of the dog family. Wolves do live. Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat has been written to examine and explain wolves way of life. “Whenever and whenever men have engaged in the mindless slaughter of animals (including other men), they have often attempted to justify their acts by attributing the most vicious or revolting qualities to those they would destroy; and the less reason there is for the slaughter, the greater campaign of vilification (P 172).” Besides that view, Farley Mowat has drawn more importance of having the wolves in the ecosystem than what people think. Farley Mowat’s Never Cry Wolf entails a brilliant narrative that consists of the actual place that a man occupies amongst creatures that nature hosts and the magic of the wild wolves. There are major themes that were clearly expressed by Farley Mowat in the book Never Cry, Wolf. These themes are that wolves are not a threat to humans or nature. The book has demarcated the emerging discourse that appears between the wrongs that are made by the humans which characterized the early 1960s Canadian environmental movement and the animal rights that animals should enjoy in their habitat. Mowat, first engaged by the Dominion Wildlife Service used to call himself a Mammalogist. He was later informed that the issue concerning the wolves had become a matter of national importance. Over forty memorandums were tabled that year in the Canadian House of Commons by the house members that targeted ammunition manufacturers and hunters and which prohibited the killing of the wolves.

Mowat created a strong relationship between him and three wolves namely Uncle Albert who was a solo male, Angeline, and her mate George. He wanted to evaluate on the day to day diet of the wolves to clear up the rumors that had spread associating wolves with man-eating vice. He discovered that wolves ate mice. To adapt to their environment, he introduced a dish called “Souris a la Crème” which made from mice. In this research, Mowat deflated the rumors that had made people hunt wolves believing they feed on humans as their diet. The author decided to have the book written in a confessional motif style. It connects the reader to the thoughts that were expressed by the author. He wanted to bring the passion of nature and his sense of humor showing people that life is thoroughly disarming. On my point of view nature majorly consists majorly of plants and animals. As learned earlier it is the sole duty of every individual to conserve and protect what nature holds. This is the reason why Farley Mowat took over half a century taking care of the wolves and tries to bring down cartels that associated it with man-eating vice. The way the book was written engages readers and shows them the truth about wolves.

The author had self-love for various animals that nature was not favoring his book Never Cry Wolf can be compared to his 1987 biography of Diam Fossey, who was a naturalist who mainly majored on campaigning against the murder of gorillas that happened in Rwanda. At the personal level, the book teaches that every animal is substantial in nature. It has also been made clear that besides Wolves and Gorillas there are many animals that have died through hunting by humans following rumors that they get associated with man-eating vices. It is always important to take time and really do an intensive research like the one done by Farley Mowat to justify whether the spreading rumor is true. In conclusion, the book Never Cry Wolf has given an illustration of distinct beliefs that exists among people concerning the environment and nature. Mowat has also apparently offered a demonstration of how particular ideas have been influential to the way in which people interact with life. Finally, according to Mowat, it is never too late for humans to change and make a correction of their humanistic errors that they have done on nature in the past. In his book closing remarks Mowat expressed the way he thought by closing with this sentence, “I thought of Angeline and her pup covering at the bottom of the den where they had taken refuge from the thundering app apparition of the aircraft, and I was ashamed.” (p. 175).
