Cyber Bullying And Its Lasting Causes And Effects And How To End It
Cyber bullying is an offence in which harms other without physical interactions, but through social media. According to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary Online (2020), Bullying is defined as when someone abuses or harasses other people in one or another way. Bullying was only present through social interaction. Today cyber bullying take the place because of advent of technology and social media platforms like Facebooks, twitter, messages, Instagram, tik tok and so on. Today these sites are used by teens to make new friends and post everything about theirselves and what they usually do in days. Bullying can be many types like harassing, spread false rumors, abusing, making fake pages on social media, and so many more. Social media plays a huge role in cyberbullying because many teens use social media for entertainments. Cyberbullying is a known problem all across the world. It goes unnoticed as actual bullying most of the time, but cyber bullying can be very harmful, and sometimes even fatal. More and more people are standing up against it, but there are still a lot of cyber bullies in the world.
Cyberbullying happens when some post, writes, and messages about somebody. Cyberbullying can hurt people in a lot of ways. People will suffer from cyberbullying than they would be regular bullying, especially when you are being exposed to the whole world around you. However, either way bullying is bullying. Sometimes the ones doing the bullying are an after effect of being raised in a broken home, drug addicts or could be insecurities about oneself. According to Ross (2020), half of the students across the nation experience cyber bullying because of technology. Everywhere you go you see a young child to an adult focusing on their devices. With the availability of technology and the World Wide Web, bullies have become more innovative in creating havoc among the teenage population.
Cyber bullies use such devices and the internet to pick on people or comment on posts and it has become evident that sometimes a small negative comment can cause such a distress. Cyber bullying has led to a lot negative issues. For on suicide has become high amongst teens. Over the years cyber bullying has quadrupled (Ross, 2020). It’s no wonder you have students trying to find clicks and fit in. Once there is evidence that you are out of place or you offend someone, then this becomes grounds for bullying.
How Can We Avoid Cyber-Bullying?
It can be hard to let technology go especially when it is the 21st century. Everything is either automatic or automated. The only thing one can do is to make sure that the friends they choose are the right friends. Make sure that you choose your friends wisely. Parents should monitor their child’s online activity and should notice if there is a change in behavior of their child.
With Cyber Bullying text messages, emails, blogs even instagrams pose a threat, however we must always be on our toes. As teens we must be responsible for our action and those that threat others must face the consequences. Even small discussion groups or such teen center provide and outlet for teenagers. In reality, people face hardships every day, but we must be equipped to handle the pressure and learn how to reach out to others for help.
