My Early Passion for Criminal Justice

What makes a criminal a criminal? And what gives them a motive to kill? Entering the field of criminal psychology is something that has always interested me, even at a young age. I knew what I wanted to be after hearing about the ‘bad guys’ my father would catch. Even watching the news would intrigue me so. Soon as the years went by and I continued looking into possible jobs on the police force and colleges that would help me achieve my goal that I set in stone.

As a child, my curiosity with psychology would continue to grow. I would usually be with my fun uncle as he let me watch any show that looked interesting to the both of us, such as the First 48 and Law and Order. As I grew older and gained a better understanding of what was occurring in these shows, I would soon start to ask my own questions and wonder the many answers I could receive. And most important questions would include what the motives were that moved people to commit crimes, and how those crimes that could change the course of not only their own lives but other lives as well.

A Pathway to Future Career 

My family has always asked me what I want to do after high school or what I would want to do with my life. After much thought about this question as I grew up throughout my childhood, I began to look into some of the other crime career options like a police officer, or becoming a criminal lawyer. After going down the rabbit hole while researching my dream career, I learned that there are more than a dozen specialized areas of psychology. Normally when someone thinks of what a psychologist is, they will usually picture a “therapist”. When in reality, those who become psychologists can also choose to work as consultants, researchers and many more that help in the field.

I look forward to beginning my higher education at college. I truly believe that a criminal justice program will offer me a well-informed chance to enhance my passion for my future career in criminal justice. And I know that if I get accepted, the college will provide me with the tools I need to help gain more knowledge about my future career and help me go on the right path to earn the job. Even though I do currently plan on giving a try at a major in criminal justice, attending an institution will soon help me put my future decisions into a better point of view for me, and also give me a chance to sample numerous criminal majors as I make the important future career decision for the rest of my life.
