Essay About What Leadership Means To Me

For me, leadership means not only pursue success for myself but also to motivate and empower others to do the same by setting the perfect example to follow. For me, leadership means knowing where to go, leading the right path, taking new challenges and not being afraid to take the responsibilities for the outcome of new roles or projects.

Since my childhood, I’ve been always involved in sports activities as team captain. I have to deal with various kind of people from different culture and religion. I have to listen to what they have to say and choose the right decision to let my team win. Yeah, I’ve lost a few times but I didn’t let that stop me nor my team members to go for the next match and continue winning again. When my team loses, I don’t get afraid to take the full responsibility on my shoulder as I am the captain and when my team wins, we celebrate it all together. Once my team was on the verge of losing so I had to go out of my comfort zone. As I am a bowler, batting was never my strength but still, I scored an unbeaten 51 and help my team to win. That will always be a memorable and cherishable moment of my life. In my undergraduate life, I was involved quite a significant number of great projects and I was the team leader of most of those projects. Even I was the only female member of those projects as there is a significant number of the gender gap in the IT sector. So I wanted to show my female friends that coding is fun, exciting and it is not something to be left to boys alone. Some of my friends then decided to start coding and now they are in different IT companies in the country. I wanted to be a role model to them and I succeeded.

Being a Software Engineer of a well-recognized IT company of Bangladesh, always I have to work in a team and have to maintain a healthy social atmosphere. I have to take challenges all the time as coding is challenging. I have to make decisions, meet different types of clients, maintain time, work under pressure according to different requirements but those things never scared me because I always enjoy what I do, know how to handle when the situation goes out of control.

Last but not the least, whenever I see a kid is crying because of hunger, I can’t tolerate that. So I feed them whenever and wherever I see them. I also encourage my friends to help poor people because they need us. I feel whatever one achieves in his/her life, they should share and contribute it towards the benefits of the community. So I am really enthusiastic about the scholarship so that I could sharpen my leadership skills to higher heights and may have a great contribution to the society, to my university and especially to my country.
