According to the law term, theft is an action or crime of stealing. In another word, theft means an act that illegally taking something that belongs to others and keeps it without permission.

Someone who contains out an act of or makes a career of theft is referred to as a thief. The act of theft is also regarded with the aid of other terms which include stealing, thieving, and filching. The actus reus of stealing is generally defined as an unauthorized taking, retaining, or the usage of any other's property which have to be followed with the aid of a men's rea of dishonesty and the intent permanently to deprive the owner or rightful possessor of that property or its use.

There are many types of theft in Malaysia which are illegal to the law.

Firstly, burglary is one type of theft. Burglary means house-breaking theft which is an unlawful entry into a building or different location for the purposes of committing an offense.

Next, embezzlement is an act of withholding belongings for the cause of conversion of such belongings, via one or greater people to whom the assets have been entrusted, either to be held or for use for unique functions. Often it includes the trusted man or woman embezzling simplest a small proportion of the overall of the funds or assets they acquire or manage, in an attempt to restrict the threat of the detection of the misallocation of the charge variety or assets.

Robbery also one of the types of theft activity. Robbery and theft are the same activity but brings different meaning. Robbery means the crime of taking or attempting to take anything of value by force, the threat of force, or by putting the victim in fear. Among the varieties of robbery are armed robbery, which involves using a weapon, and aggravated theft, when a person brings with them a lethal weapon or something that appears to be a deadly weapon.

Highway theft or mugging takes vicinity outdoor or in a public vicinity consisting of a sidewalk, road, or car parking zone.

Carjacking is the act of stealing a vehicle from a victim by way of forcing.

Therefore, shoplifting means the omitted theft of products from an open retail established order. Shoplifting typically entails a person concealing a store object on their man or woman, in pockets, undergarments, or in a bag, and leaving the shop without procuring it.
