“Ah!” I yelled “Get back here, you stupid horse”. Suddenly, I remembered that there was a ferocious gang of put out laws chasing after me. I regrated my actions of yelling like the noisy crow that always wakes me up at dawn. I jittered if the sound of my heart beating like the constant rhythm of a steam train chugging along rail would give away my location. So, I started to crawl on my bruised knee in search for a shelter, as my eyes weren’t much of a help for the sun said its goodbyes and the distant twinkling stars which tried to replace the sun but failed awfully. I could feel everything from the biggest, sharpest rock to smallest beetle in my search for shelter. Then like thunder luck struck me. I found a deserted wombat whole big enough to fit in by the grate big eucalyptus. I dragged my body to hide it in the hole. I hugged my knees with my poor tortured head leaning on them, were I could smell my unwashed dirty, sweaty uniform.

“It was all my fault.” I accused myself, “If I didn’t shoot those innocent animals.” I couldn’t tell if the water drawling down the bloody check was sweat or tears, that I couldn’t hold it back. Thoughts and memories started playing in my head. What happened to the team I came in. I recall hearing a dreadful scream of pain which I sworn was Scanlon’s signal of his death. I didn’t even see it, yet I still shiver at the distant, haunting sound, which still rings in my ear. And Kennedy. I didn’t even want to think about the unearthly condition he is left under. I assume his dead by now.

But Lonigan. What I saw with my own two eyes, can’t forgotten in a billion years. That heartless villain Kelly had me and Lonigan as hostage under his filthy nose. I was frozen in fear. My hands, against my will, went flying into the air. Thoughts started racing into my mind, “Ned Kelly is standing in a spitting distance from me. I could have been the hero. The one known to capture the Kelly. All those my money I would get as reward and even maybe a promotion. Just need brilliant plan.” Just as I was putting together a cunning plan to get the Kelly in grasp, Lonigan did the most stupid thing he could do in his entire career. “What the heck is doing” I thought to myself. He took a great big jump to take cover b behind, on his way he dashed his iron like body into me and pushing me to the ground. As I banged into the ground, I could taste the grainy dry dust, when I realised Lonigan’s intention was to tell me something, not bash into me! His next action brought his death from behind the big log which was half covering his body he reached to get his gun. Whatever he had plan remained a plan, as the Kelly pulled the trigger of his gun. Boom! The noise of the ammunition burst out of the gun penetrated the ear of every living thing around for miles. All the birds that shut their eyes for the night started squawking hysterically, abandoning their homes. The bullet pierced through Lonigan’s shirt then through this chest. Fresh but dark blood started to ooze out of chest creating flood of blood under him. Everything happened in a blink of an eye. In fear, I couldn’t force my eyelid to shut. I couldn’t force my self to look away from the bloody monstrous site of death. I couldn’t move or hear or scream. I only stood there in horror. Who knows what happened next? I couldn’t remember a thing even though, everything flashed before my eyes. All I remember was without no plan, I leapt onto Kennedy’s horse, which bolts across the campsite into the forest like the bullet that killed Lonigan. Both mine and the horses petrified sole knew that there was a possibility that none of us get out of hear alive.

“Creak, CREAK.” The distant chirping of the cricket as my mind regained consciousness as I could taste the wet powder dirt which kept going into my mouth. Every moment I was thinking that the Kelly is just outside shelter. I couldn’t see anything in this Deathly black night in that grubby wombat hole. What would happen to me? Only one thought kept coming to my mind “will I ever get to tell this daring though horrific tragic tale to anyone?”
