The Connection Between Justice And Fairness
I personally think that justice is the same thing as fairness. Justice can be seen anywhere, when you are talking about law for example, justice will apply equally to everyone, well depending the type of charge you get of course. For example, if you kill someone, you will be sure to get a death penalty, and there is nothing that could stop it, it’s part of the law. I think that this is where justice also kicks in because if you kill someone, and the other three people as well, and if you all get a death penalty, isn’t that being fair already.
Law obeys fairness, and this is one way to prove, another thing if you were to jaywalk, your not gonna get a death penalty for that, you would probably get a ticket for it. It all depends on the gravity of things, because jaywalking and killing someone do not have the same consequences. Some people may argue though that jaywalking could potentially end up getting someone killed, but think of it like this, what is the highest possibility of someone getting killed, someone jaywalking, or someone that is getting a gun pointed to their head. Most likely, the guy with the gun pointed to his head will be killed. Sometimes I also feel as if people try to control this world, with the power they have or the race they are. Sometimes they also want to control the environment we live in, or peoples affairs, or other people’s lives. I think that here is where justice kicks in because justice convinces us that things that are not in our control will be fair. Justice convinces us that the things that are not in our control will be fair in the ways described above, but also that we will be able to predict, what will happen when we do, or don’t do something. When you speed for example, you may get a speed ticket. Depositing money into a bank, and they are required to pay the interest. Enter a contract, and you commit yourself to do what the contract says Go to work, get a paycheck; and so on. Some people might say, “So, I want to rule the world. I want to make all the decisions.” But you can’t.
So “justice” makes sure that nobody else can. It makes sure that laws and everything else is both reasonable and consistent. It provides us insight on things that are beyond our control, so that everyone can plan their lives and so they can live with some peace of mind.
