Overview of Organizations Willing to Help the Children in Need

Children in need referred to those kids from rural communities, urban poor areas, and low-income families as well as their parents are dead. Most of them are categorized as orphans, illegitimate children, abandoned children, and street children. They are normally lacking support in term of education, food and also shelter. However, education required the highest percentage of attention in Community Service of Children. According to UNESCO, Malaysia’s literacy rate of children reached almost 95%. They always result underperforming in their academics which ended up trapping them in a cycle of never-ending poverty. (Abigail Tan, Jirehshope, 2018)

Therefore, the government works closely with the Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) to improve the literacy rate among underserved children in Malaysia. There are many non-profit organizations that provide educational assistance to those children from an underprivileged background. Most parents of these children are unable to send their children to tuition classes and schools due to lacking of financial support. SUKA Society (Persatuan Kebajikan Suara Kanak-Kanak Malaysia) is one of the non-profit NGO out there that protects and preserves the best interest of children who are marginalized or trapped in crisis situations. Volunteers are required to raise funds for helping the victims of trafficking cope with the effects of their abuse. At the same time, they wanted to raise the awareness in society for keeping these children safe and literate. (Abigail Tan,Jirehshope, 2018)

Moreover, a youth led NGO organized a project of Building Automation With Education (BAWE) which founded by Zad Chin Qi Qi who currently studying in Kolej Yayasan UEM. BAWE aims at preventing children who are living in poverty currently to be unemployed in future by providing them with social skills and quality education. The volunteers are required to provide free personalized home tuition to children who living in poverty as well as provide them additional learning opportunities by exposing them to extracurricular activities such as piano, chess, robotics, sports, and so on. Every volunteer will be followed up the progress of the students from different household with a file which containing the information about the students on what should be taught based on the last experience. Apart from that, OrphanCARE has stated there are 90 registered private institutions for orphans and 117 for disabled children in Malaysia. However, there are many orphanages are not registered with the government. OrphanCARE may be one of the registered NGO that seeks to reduce the number of orphans in children’s home. It aims to give the orphans and abandoned children a sense of love and care in the existence of a family in accordance to OrphanCARE’s objectives “Every Child Needs A Family”. OrphanCARE encouraged most of the parents to adopt the orphans and bring them up in a proper family structure. The parents have to register themselves with the authority to ensure an optimum supports to the adopted child. (HATI serving the community, n.d)
