My Passion For Education In The Field Of Dentistry
I feel that education is a tool that can make or break your future if not taken seriously. I might not be a veteran to overcoming tough obstacles, but I went through and have seen enough to know that my education is very important. I have always had questions about myself and the world I live in. I was determined to obtain answers to my questions, I became very interested in the sciences, namely Chemistry and Biology. Science has taught me that the world and what is in it is very complex but very unique. There is more to this world than what appears on the surface. Science is fulfilling, but I am not always confined to my books and writing down notes. I am performing experiments and learning more. My fascination for beautiful and healthy teeth has motivated me to pursue a career in Dentistry.
Life has brought me a lot of ups and downs, but I've prepared myself to push forward and do things that can help me to learn and grow. High school was where I developed a strong scientific foundation, and my career path became clear to me. I prepared myself in many ways, by taking up courses, such as Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, and participating in national science fairs. I have taken the initial steps towards my career by completing my Access to HE Science course, completing a dental nurse course and working full time as a trainee dental nurse for the NHS and shadowing a great dentists. While balancing work and school, I have willingly given my time to youth groups. I was a Youth Ambassador of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and member of the Youth Parliament and debated in the House of Assembly. I enjoy being a voice for young individuals.
These exercises helped me in many ways. I am now a very poised speaker and I do not shy away from taking part in activities such as speaking in group forums, nor do I give up easily. I frequently volunteered at my local Youth Department back in the Turks and Caicos Islands, helping to organize fundraising events, and activities to keep young people occupied. These activities helped mould me, as well as guide the young people to act and think positively. In addition, I took part in a modelling contest, where I attended workshops based on interviewing and networking skills. I also learned how to act in different environment from those that I'm used to. I am active in sports: track and Field, softball, basketball and netball. Combining my academic life with my athletic life always shows that I work hard but I find time to have fun.
A degree dental surgery will create a rewarding opportunity for me. My biggest dream is to become a successful dentist. Dentistry is an artistic as well as scientific profession. I chose this profession because it offers challenges and variety and its core begins with passion. I have developed myself through hard work and perseverance. I shadowed a local dentist, based in the Turks and Caicos, which helped to expand my knowledge about my career choice. Dr. Harvey was patient and willing to guide me, he has had a strong and positive influence on my life. The skills I have gained through being a part-time dental assistant have given me hands-on experience learning the different types of dental instruments and correct terminology. I volunteered my weekends in my cousin's pharmacy where I learned about the different medicines that a dentist would prescribe. Through my determination and commitment, I know that dentistry is the right choice for me. I am very focused, and never give up until I achieve exactly what I aspire for. "We have not wings, we cannot soar; but we have feet to scale and climb". My passion for my education shows me that there is no limit to wanting to increase my boundaries and explore my interests.
