Martha Washington - One Of The Most Important Women In The History Of The USA
In my eyes, every woman has contributed to raising American in some way. The women were very hard-working they were either at home defending their turf, running the farm, taking care of her kids, or in most cases doing it all. If it weren’t for women, the homes would be a mess, the farm would not be running properly while the men were out working. Families would be a mess without the mothers. However, Martha Washington is one of the most important women of them all. She contributed to raising America in the strongest points needed for America to succeed.
Martha was a strong supporter when it came to George Washington being president. George always had doubt about being president and she continued to encourage him to be the best. George Washington, always known as “Father of our country” changed America forever, he made it a better place to live in, he was part of the Constitution and Bill of Right’s we still follow to this day. He set the standard for future presidents by making changes in the areas America needed change, I feel that any president in office looks up to George. Everyone needs a support system, someone to pick you up when you backslide, embolden you to improve and Martha was that support system for George.
Martha Washington was a kind-hearted person, she was always going to camp to keep the troops from deserting, she would nurse the hurt and pray with them. When she became the first lady she would lobby congress to give troops veteran benefits. She had a welcoming home for anyone who stopped by, she put others before herself and continuously found ways to help people. Her and George had many receptions and formal dinners, Martha worked so hard to make every event perfect and welcoming to anyone being that they never had a private invite so that there was no sense of favoritism while also taking care of young children, she never had time for herself. Cokie Roberts states in her book Founding mothers “I have not had one half hour to myself since the day of my arrival. My first care was to get the children to a good school which they are both very much pleased at.“, “There was and elegant variety of roast beef, veal, turkey, ducks, fowls, hams, etc.; puddings, jellies, oranges, apples, nuts, almonds, figs, raisins, and a variety of wines and punch.” “Congress had determined that the first family should accept no private invitations, in order to avoid the appearance of favoritism.”
Martha was a woman for all women and young girls to look up to, she was a strong woman who put others before herself, she made sure the kids and her guest were well taken care of before herself, while George was gone she took care of the family business and the plantation. With all the responsibilities, she was in charge of she still took care of herself, she looked nice and presentable everyday Cokie Roberts states in her book Founding mothers, “My hair is set and dressed every day.” She set a standard of elegance and simplicity for all women to look up to and show them that even though you have all the chores of the house you need to make time for yourself.
