The Most Serious Issues Associated With Illegal Drug Use

Drugs have always been a problem in the UK, as well as the rest of the world. It’s a habit or rather an addiction that is almost impossible to get rid of, but with the right approach it’s possible for this problem to become smaller. As years go by, we find new ways to cope and deal with our problems, it’s not unthinkable that drugs won’t be a problem at some point, the question is when? Drugs ruin lives in so many ways. They affect our work, our personal relationships, and most importantly our bodies and minds, all while creating a dependency on them to function. What are the some of the most drastic issues associated with illegal drug usage in the UK? How can we fix these problems? This is what this essay will be talking through.

First, we will be discussing work. Drugs have been known to make us neglect ourselves, and the essential things in our lives, starting at the work place. “1 in 11 adults aged 16 to 59 have taken drugs in the past year which equates to around 3 million people” (Drugwise, 2017). They are often taken to cope with being away from home, stress, and night shifts as well as a number of different reasons. Drugs in the workplace can affect behavior, attendance, and how productive an individual is being. They can also cause them to be extremely inappropriate toward other peers. The businesses’ performance, as well, suffers if the worker is making bad choices and not thinking their actions through, costing them valuable time and money. Getting caught with drugs also ruins the company’s image, and workers who are aware an individual is using drugs, especially at work, can get into huge amounts of trouble if they remain quiet on the matter.

Secondly, we will discuss personal relations. Substance abuse is known to tear families and sometimes friendships apart. They make an individual self-centered, with their main concern being is when to get the next hit, and making them blind to the concern of those around them. Some people may become depressed, angry, aggressive, sleepy, unmotivated, paranoid, anxious or talkative (Drugaware). It is also known to escalate the probability of domestic abuse and unstable behavior.
