The Main Contributors to the Charles Manson's Behaviour and Fate

Charles Manson comes to the limelight in 1969 with a composition of seven bloody murders in Los Angeles. Shockingly, Manson did not carry out any of the murders by himself; instead, he indoctrinated and manipulated others to commit these crimes. Born 12th November 1934, in Ohio states to Manson Nee Maddox and Colonel Walker Henderson who became known only when Manson Maddox filed a paternity case otherwise Manson could not have known his biological father. Manson’s mother entered into different marriages which resulted into divorces. Occasionally she spent her evenings drinking while leaving Manson with babysitters. In august 1939 she engaged in robbery which resulted to a five year sentence. Mason could then live with her aunt in West Virginia. Here, Manson started paying truancy by burgling stores at night to support him. Eventually caught and sent to Washington national training school for boys where he was deemed aggressively antisocial. While her mother spent nights drinking. Although from an early age, Charles Manson expressed his desire and passion for music, he grew up into a narcissistic cult leader. He achieved infamy for organizing the murders of Gary Hinman in July 1969, actress Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Voytek Frykowski, Steve Parent, and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, in incidents which popularly become known as Tate-LaBianca killings. One of the most famous murderers in history, Manson has gained much of his popularity from the true crime novels, news editorials, and other informal vehicles of information to become one of the most well-known villains of the twentieth century.

Although the media and popular opinion have described Manson merely as a troubled man, examining most important and fascinating parts of his story, one could agree that counter cultures of the 1960s facilitated Mansion’s criminal activities by providing an enabling environment that could hide his true criminal motives. Carlifonian culture at this period was characterised with lack of personal responsibility in terms of realistic long term goals, free love and drug use that promoted crime and promiscuity as well as an innate rebellion against traditional societal norms. Protective techniques and psychology exploited this culture in a manner that could have been challenging in the current culture. In one of his panel hearing, the panel noted that Manson had had mental related issues such as schizophrenia and paranoid delusional disorder; this imposed great danger if he was to be released. Additionally, Manson had a controlling behaviour. Manson’s psychological condition also known as antisocial personality disorder is described as a condition in which an individual neither feels empathy nor remorse (Robert, 2003). This condition is described clinically as interpersonal, and behavioral characteristics, including egocentricity, manipulative, deceitfulness, lack of empathy, guilt or remorse, and a propensity to violate social and legal expectations and norms. This condition posed a major risk factor for mansion’s activities.

Apart from psychological risk factor, extra-familial and family factor contributed to Manson’s cult behavior. Weak family ties and casual interpersonal relationships having been born out of a teen relationship characterised with irresponsible mother and lack of father figure in the family. The mother’s desire for nightlife and excitement, erratic behaviors and immature tendencies, such as leaving her child in the house while she goes out drinking for days indicates lack of role model in Mansions life (Durant, 2009). Starting life as a young adult with no financial support from form parents only meant having to involve in criminal activities to pay his bills and find food. Certain individuals in Mansions immediate environment such as terry Melcher was a constant protective factor by helping him win his musical endeavours. Family and responsibility especially pregnant wife acted as a protective factor to reduce these risks. Additionally Manson had been constantly reminded of his failure to achieve positively valued goals in his entire life even at his time in prison.
