Introduction: The purpose of this report is to develop an understanding about the current and future graduate job market roles required within specific sectors. The report will include both primary and secondary resources e. g. speaking to graduates or research online.

Section 1: A graduate scheme is a training program run by an employer to enhance future workers performance. It is important to ensure that workers have the correct knowledge and experience to carry out tasks. A trainee sports consultant was attractive and ideal to me as I have strong personal ties within sport and business.

Some of the responsibilities include: The requirements show that a diverse set of skills is crucial to effectively take on different responsibilities. Other requirements include strong organisation, sales and work ethic skills and a University degree of at least a 2:2. Wilson (2012) favored that time at University not only equips students with knowledge and skills, but also prepares them for entry into the workplace making them more attractive to employers. Companies are valuing workplace experience as a pre-requisite for employment. According to statistics, 37% of positions in the top 100 graduate recruiting organizations will be taken by students who have already worked for an organization, which illustrates that graduate schemes and workplace experience are greater valued. Neill and Mulholland (2003) believe that skills acquired in the workplace have a greater impact upon personal development and increase employability as students can better appreciate the impact of their actions when undertaken in the real world rather than the classroom.

Graduates can demonstrate the advised skills, knowledge and experiences that employers are looking for in the recruitment and selection process. For example, one of the requirements includes strong communication and work ethic skills. Therefore, I could demonstrate these skills through confidence and active engagement such as bringing candidates into the discussion if they are lacking confidence or input. Strong work ethic skills can also be demonstrated through a high drive and determination to succeed such as motivating other candidates in the group to reach goals. My role requires working as a Trainee Sport Management Consultant. The role requires not only helping to manage the current client list but also expanding it into new markets with responsibilities such as gaining new qualifications, pitching to new clients and more. I have a huge fascination with sport and entrepreneurial traits within business which can allow my skills and knowledge to play at an advantage.

For example, competing in tennis to a national level will allow for a keen eye when searching for upcoming and talented players. Additionally, I feel that opportunities such as gaining new qualifications allows for new learning and teaching styles to develop and enhance my performances within the company. The opportunity fits with current career plans as an undergraduate studying Sports and Business Studies. I aspire to work within both the sport and business industry with previous experience and knowledge in sports coaching, management and organization as well as entrepreneurial and productivity skills. Currently, I am a part time tennis coach at one of the biggest British sports, health and leisure businesses in the UK while balancing and running a successful and established clothing brand dealing with marketing, management and sales. According to my current CV, a sports management consultant compliments my skills to the requirements set by the business. For example, having a strong work ethic and communication skills match the skills outlined on my CV to help better perform these roles.

Section 2: Technology and software are constantly developing and changing overtime such as self-driving cars and 3D printing. According to Mckinsey’s Global institute’s latest report (2018) it outlines the new number and types of jobs that might be created by 2030. For example, by 2030 there will be 300 million more people aged over 65 than 2014. This will cause spending patterns to change increasing services and demand for occupations such as doctors, health technicians etc.

Furthermore, millions of people will need to switch occupations and learn new skills in the future. [image: ]The graph above illustrates the number of workers who need to move out of their current occupation to find new work between 2016 to 2030. Bailey, T (1991) analyzed the idea about new skill and educational implications to changes in technology and development overtime. Important future employability requirements include IT & technology, numeracy, communication, social intelligence and more. In the future there will be new opportunities available such as robotics which will create new jobs within digital technology. Additionally, anticipated requirements in 10-15 years’ time according to McKinsey & Company (2018) will consist of working closely with machines. The future job market illustrates constant fluctuations. Technology is constantly growing creating new employment and demand in certain areas specifically technology and software. In the future employment will be particularly attracted to people with high skills in areas such as data analysis, computing etc. Frey and Osborne (2017) assessed how the number of jobs may be at risk in the future due to computerization.

Furthermore, the future will create new shifts in employment and as a result, new jobs in skilled areas such as earthquake forecasters, software developers and more. However, according to Rumberger, R. W. and Levin, H, M. (1985) future job growth will favor service and clerical jobs and believe that technology will not supply new jobs in the future. For graduates, available opportunities in the future include artificial intelligence, robotics and more. Oakes, J (1990) highlights the increased importance towards technology in the future and the importance of science and mathematics. Similarly, Kavanagh, M. H. and Drennan, L. (2008) favor the idea that ‘business awareness’ and knowledge of the ‘real world’ are key areas to focus on in the future particularly as an accounting graduate. Additional requirements in the future include ongoing education in helping people to continue developing new skills for instance job-oriented qualifications or specific credentials to create flexible and all-round skilled workers.

Conclusion: Overall, I think that the research obtained was an important reflection and insight into new types of employment in the future and the requirements needed for certain roles. I think the research collected may make me reconsider my career choices in the future as jobs are constantly changing due to new skill requirements and technology. Additionally, a reflection on my key findings illustrate how in the future, there will be high demand for new skills and qualifications such as artificial intelligence. Therefore, for future career planning it is crucial to select roles that will continue to develop and evolve overtime as technology and software grows.
