The Effects of Anger on Other Human Emotions
Anger is like a drug, addictive. Everyone gets those feelings everyday of jealousy or comparison; or maybe someone says something that rubs you the wrong way. Anger can have many effects on a person. While mainly effecting someone’s emotions, anger can also cause a strain on a persons mind, body, and spirit. Mentally, anger could persuade someone to do things out of rash, not thought out feelings that they would later regret and wish to take back. Anger causes strain on the mind leading to stress and exhaustion, and takes away ones focus on other, more important things in life. Physically anger takes a toll causing headaches, anxiety, abdominal pains high blood pressure, or skin problems. Could lead to serious health problems such as a heart attack or a stroke. Many people, as a way of dealing with the stress anger causes, turn to smoking or drinking which causes health problems to your lungs and liver and can seriously effect a person in the long term aspect. Spiritually, the Bible notes how anger messes with someone spiritually. Proverbs states that anger can be addictive; James mentions that God does not put up with anger or harsh thoughts. When a man does things out of anger it not only displeases his fellow man, but God as well.
Before anger can indulge us to do anything, it first must start in the mind. Whenever a person gets a feeling, it first goes through the brain. Happy, sad, excited, angry are all examples. When people gets angry the brain releases a stress hormones and other feelings which can make a person run faster or think and respond quicker; because of this people make rash decisions while their emotions our high and usually regret them after (Hendricks 5). Stress and anger go hand in hand. While stress is actually a good thing when it comes to little things like making sure the dishes get done because it is a thing of motivation. When stress becomes too much stress is when it becomes bad for a person. This can lead to an overwhelming feeling of chaos and not knowing what is going on. Ways to reduce the stress is to find the cause of stress first of all and stop it. Change the environment of your stress to something peaceful that can calm nerves. Other ways to reduce stress are reducing your intake of caffeine and sugar and to exercise (Black). When a person becomes angry, they tend to focus all of there attention and time towards that, causing them to loose focus of things they need to do or goals they wish to achieve. When angry long enough it can lead people to a state of depression, we were mot designed to be angry. So when a person is angry for a really long time, (it doesn’t matter the reason why they are mad if its at the world or at themselves or at their friends or a situation) that anger begins to feel normal which can lead to a feeling of self doubt or depression. The definition of depression is the feeling of severe despondency and dejection which basically means if you’re mad long enough thoughts creep in your head about ;well maybe I’m the problem” and that is what beings the dissatisfaction people feel with themselves in many cases like this.
Anger effects your body, our average heartbeat as humans is about 80 beats per minute, whenever angry, it could rise to 180 beats per minute. Anger also causes high blood pressure That could double your blood pressure which could lead to a heart attack, stroke, or other very serious injuries (Hendricks 8). Depending on your situation and who you are as a person anger can either be something as little as giving you a tiny headache, or something life altering like a heart attack or a stroke. Not only does anger cause headaches, abdominal pain and heart attacks; it causes extreme anxiety. Anxiety is A mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities, when people become upset or frustrated they often look for a way to mask their pain and most people turn to smoking or drinking. Smoking or drinking become ways for many people to take the edge off but is not the true way how anger should be dealt with. Smoking causes lung cancer what makes it almost impossible to breathe and cancer if not cure able leads to death. Alcohol not only leaves a person unable to take care of them selves, but over time It eats away at your liver such as steatosis, or fatty liver Alcoholic hepatitis, or Cirrhosis. Alcohol also is a cancer causer so that means that when you get angry at work, you’re closer to cancer. When you take your smoke break to take the edge off, you’re closer to cancer. Whenever you get home and have a drink to unwind, you’re influencing cancer (Alcohols Effect on Body). Anger can also lead to depression. Now this has been stated earlier in previous text under the mind category but not only does it affect your mind but it also takes a toll on your body.. many people when they become depressed stop taking care of themselves; they just let their bodies go, don’t really care about themselves, some even cause self hard.
Spiritually, we were not designed to be angry. When we were created God wasn’t thinking “okay lets be sure to give them enough rage to last a lifetime.”. We were designed to love one another as he has loved us. James 1:20 “for mans anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires” (New Kings James James 1:20); God designed each one of us with a plan and a purpose on this earth and that can be ruined so easily with getting angry or frustrated at little things or big things it’s all the same in Gods eyes. The Bible states that if we follow the commandments placed by him then we will live long and prosper in this earth. The book of proverbs talks a lot about wisdom. Anger or foolishness ie what The opposite of wisdom. All throughout the Bible God talks about wisdom and how its so important and that its something to be sought after. But a wise man could never be a wise man if he was mad all of the time. Not only does God hate a person who can not keep there cool and loses his cool all the time, but on the eyes of man he loses favor. Nobody wants to be friends with a hot head who can never keep their cool in situations that get tense or a little uncomfortable.
