The Carl Jung's Theory of Development of Personality and Psyche

The upbringing of Carl was dark and sadden sadly. He was raised in Switzerland with a more dominant mother than father. He was alone for many hours to get away from these two because of the burden the family marriage placed on him as a child. Jung was born into a family of Clergymen including his father. So religion and politics was introduced to him at an early age. He suffered from experiencing weird dreams and visions most of his childhood as well. But after all he did have to deal with his dominant and unstable mother.Although he saw his father as a weak male he did grow closer to him as opposed to his mother. His father was moody and irritable as well which wasn't the type of father figured Jung would hope to look up to. But outside of that he was the more tolerant and mindful parent. His unstable mother led others to believe the whole maternal side suffered from insanity. He saw his mother as two people because of the instant mood changes she experienced and she would often gaze into space behaving unpredictable. He also saw her as fat and unattractive This caused Jung to get a bad taste in his mouth about women which took a minute to change. Jung spent consumed most of his time alone with his wooden doll who he narrated his thoughts with in an attic. Although he received a little sister at 9 years old she still did not satisfy his seclusion.

During his young age, he detoured from hanging with other kids as they did the same. This was due to his background with his parents. But this shaped him to master being alone and become solid. Loneliness also influenced his to become interested into this dreams and visions. It also allowed him to be a much successful theorist today. In the education department, he spent most time studying formal studies as opposed to the topics he found himself interested in. He became quite ill which sparked up his unconscious mind where he experience neurotic behaviors.

But the illness suddenly vanished but he still wondered about these dreams and what occurred in an unconscious state. Of course he studied in medicine and psychiatry as he seen this as a motive to study more on his interests; the supernatural. He worked in a mental home where he worked around the male who identified schizophrenia. Later on he was lucky enough to have married a rich heiress. So he quit his job and started giving lectures at a university while starting up his own clinical practice. As stated opposed to Freud, Jung didnt see much importance to sex. He was one who endured many affairs one in which who his wife knew about. His patients and supporters often grew to fall in love with him at some point. That still didn't stop the success that was destined with all his productiveness in research he spent most of his life on. He has a weird way of behaving towards his kids and wife. They rarely hugged or kissed, only a way hello and a shake goodbye. He stashed his money into books and jars as well as his garden. So when he passed away his family often found a lifetime wad of money.

Carl experienced a neurotic episode that lasted for three consecutive years at a success peak. He considered suicide and believed he was losing sight of reality. This made him sad because he had to put his life and scientific work on pause. He even redesigned his lectures at the university but somehow he still found the strength to treat the patients.

Even growing up in his parents' home he disagreed with Freud's statement that boys grow a sexual lust for their mothers and want to compete with the father for the mothers love. Again he grew a distaste about his mother and didn't see her attractive in any state. Jung had already has a name for himself when he started associating with Sigmund Freud. He felt like he adopted Jung as a son and as if he was passing the torch to Jung as a successor. Jung also didn't want to grow close to his new mlae friend because of an incident that happened at 18.

Someone who he had seen as a father figure and close friend to the family made a sexual pass at him. So he broke off the relationship causing him to have a hunch when it came to his male figures who seeked to grow a relationship with him. This made it a bit difficult when it came to Freud because Jung felt as Freud was forcing himself on him. It wasn't easy to sustain an emotional relationship with his close friend Freud. This was another point of Freud's theory Jung disagreed with. Due to his years of loneliness he focused more on inner growth as an individual first. Opposed to the importance of a relationship with others. Freud ideology was much more different because he had a more extrovert and in-the-loop type of childhood. Jung was however a critic to following behind Freud's believed statement with the supernatural, the self and dreams. Jung had his own ideas and beliefs that he had already made in his mind. Once he expressed these differences they then started to separate. At the starting point of the unconscious state, Jung felt secure with his fantasize and visions. He often seeked answers in them whenever he had a real life problem. The personality theory was created in this same manner. He imagined that dreams directed his human personality approach. Meaning the direction of exploration to the unconscious state was beyond the surface of one’s behavior.

To Jung the Libido wasn't just a sexual type energy it was a broad energy of life. He stated that it was applied in two different way’s one being, a diffused and lively type energy. Two being that the Psyche was nothing but a psychic energy that works off the influences of personality. Also that psychic energy included activities like wishing, feeling, thinking and perceiving. He proposed it being three different principles to the psychic energy. The principles of opposites which states there’s opposites or polarities to any wish or feeling.

Like with decay and creation or heat and cold. Where there is a higher conflict with the opposites, the energy produced behind in with be its greatest. Then there’s the principle of equivalence where energy sometimes is shifted to a new area to have an equal value of the psyche. So if the psyche value is lost or less valued the psychic energy is shifted into making a new area in the personality. Our psychic energy that's used on conscious activities shifts to our dreams when we are asleep. This is why things we are invested in too much as we are awake is brought in our unconscious state. Lastly it is the principle of entropy which focuses on the equality of energy differences like a homeostatic balance occuring due to a change in energy. Now Jung thought this was a help with maintaining some balance in the psyche. If there is not an equal distribution of psychic energy in the personality it would cause a conflict for the energy to even be produced.

With the aspects of the personality or psyche, it takes several components in the system in which the aspects influences each other. Starting with the ego or the center of the conscious, the ego matches up with the way we think, feel, remember and perceive things. The ego is the award state of our minds the awaken us. It's why we participate in daily activities in the waking life. The ego only takes part in a portion of the stimuli when we are exposed. Then there is the opposite mental attitudes which reflect who we are in the social realm. According to Jung through either of these attitudes is how psychic energy channels to the outside world or to ourselves. As we all are aware introvert type people are the ones who are much to themselves and often are shy. They are those who focus more on their own thoughts and feelings. Opposed to the extroverts, which are those who are much more social and welcoming people.

They’re more oriented to the external world and other people not themselves. We still could be both in Jungs eyes but one is bound to be more dominant than the other one. The more nondominant one still affects behavior just more on the personal unconscious. When he noticed their where different types of extraverts and introverts he added them having an effect on the psychological functions. Which are the different ways we perceive our inner world and the external world. He pointed out the four psyche function being us sensing, feeling, thinking and intuiting. Like our personality containing both introversion and extroversion placements we have the capacity to obtain all four psychological functions. However only pair of the functions are more dominant than the other. One cannot be dominant in the opposing function in each of the pair because they are different. So one function out of the thinking and feeling pair has to be more ruling. Just as the other pair sensing and intuition they are both opposites. In total this makes up 8 psychological types due to the four functions and two psyche attitudes.

Jung approaches the development of personality as having only three stages. He believed our psyche only development more regardless of age as we become more self-realizing. The childhood stage began once children became aware of themselves and others. At the beginning age children don't have a specific identity where they have their own personality. solely reflect the personality of the parent and the parents have a huge influence on formatting characteristics they want their child to endure. Then there is puberty to young adulthood stage where the psyche becomes at a definite form. This is when there is a need to adapt and difficulties start to form. Fantasies of our childhood start to end as reality starts to sink in. Which explains why we change our careers to more realistic positions as compared to wanting to be a princess or cowboy ideas we had as kids. We start to focus on getting married and starting families, or investing or owning a business. The conscious starts to be more dominant, the transition is full of more achievements and goal making. The last stage is the middle age where a huge shift in personality occurs. Problems of wanting to adapt and fit in that happened in the young adulthood stage no longers exists in this stage. People the ages of 35 and begin to be a lot more established and patients reported to Jung a retaining to live starts to vanish. They start to lose the meaning of life after they’ve achieved their goals or lost a sense of excitement.

I chose to speak on the artist Kash Doll, or Arkeisha Knight a female rappler from Detroit, Michigan. Just like many other artists, Kash Doll was one who grew up in a town where she wanted to entertain because a regular job wasn't for her and she had seen in many dreams and visions that she would be a star. Just as Jung mentioned the personal unconscious which reserved memory once the conscious forget it, Kash doll knew she was destined to be successful. But she put it forgot all about that lifestyle when her career didn't take off as she’d hoped. Many nights as a child she seen her self performing in front of big stages and helping many less fortunate ladies. She found an alternative route which was being a exotic dancer. It wasn't something she had seen herself doing but working a nine to five did not go along with the traits she believed in. Like people talking to her everyday at the end of the day she liked to be by herself. Her lust for being in front of large amounts of people allowed her extroverted attitude to dominate her others. She had a more extrovert intuting. She liked to be creative with her raps and she often motivated her team when she became successful. When you pour motivation into those around you they tend to do the same and things flow better. At the end of the day these are people she had to be around. Often times when we think about something so much it starts to affect the collective unconscious and our behavior. So because she wanted to be an entertainer so bad and she knew it was meant to be. She started to increase in her dedication. She started to perform at her job as a exotic dancer, this got her talents out to others while she was winning the love of men because of her nice body and pretty face. In an interview she spoke on how the upbringing of her started. She was born into a single parent home and she grew close with her father as she got older until he died. Just like Jung she had a bad experience with a male at an earlier age so it was hard to build a relationship with her father when she grew older. That didn't stop men falling in love with her charming ways as well. Just as she hoped and fantasies about she became a famous rapper doing features with all the other known rappers. She always look into her visions and dreams to lead her on her journey because she felt as the unconscious had something to do with our past and the planning out of our future.
