When we talk about the impacts of media, without any doubt the area media has affected the most is the culture. When we talk about any country or nation the most highlighted part is their culture or norms that how the nation is specifically different because of their culture and values. Before the media inventions, every nation was enjoying their own civilization, norms but as media evolve with time to time a broad change has come due to evolving of new media techniques.

Now there are some examples that how media has created an impact on cultural values.

The United States is one of the countries who are famous for the liberalism and the country with full freedom so they start doing what they feel right for them. So with time to time they start doing it so rigorously that their TV shows, dramas, films start showcasing their new identity and people start admiring it not only in western countries but the whole world start inspiring with this. Here is the example of LGBT rights movement which started from a very small forum but due to its social activations and highlighting the LGBT rights in their magazines, newspaper content, radio the whole law has been passed over this United States so it is a huge sign that how new media is making or breaking the laws.

In western culture, there is a movement of liberalism and feminism which is being transmitted through their channels like newspaper, content, magazines, TV shows to all over the world including Pakistan and different eastern countries and then these movements become famous in Pakistan too. Now there are whole communities which are being impressed by these movements and promote it through new media techniques and now we’re almost there when these things are implementing in Pakistan with pride. Similarly, all the media forums are showcasing that Pakistani women are the weaker ones they have no rights, they don’t speak for themselves so the women in our society feel so oppressed.

There are numerous examples that how our culture has been evolved. In late 90’s there was only one common storyline of dramas which actually showcase the culture of Pakistan, but now our content totally changes. TV shows, dramas, and whole TV programming become the trendsetters for the generations which itself is the type of media. Even if we talk about these days, 3-4 dramas are being on-aired having a storyline of prostitutes. So now our new generation can easily talk about these bold topics, and who is to blame over this? Media and its evolution that transmitted into our minds. Not only media our newspapers, magazines, radio programs are also pinpointing these topics so generally that people don’t hesitate to talk about this.

Now the most common and most criticized part of our media is the item-song thing, which is also being influenced by the other nation’s culture. Sadly it becomes a necessity of all the films that without item-song a film is incomplete, so yes they are changing our minds and calling us to be more broad-minded by watching these movies. And those who do not accept this are termed as narrow-minded because we as a society accept these new norms and value.

Sadly our culture is the weakest culture among all that is being inspired by the other ones. Now our society is confused in between being liberal or being Islamic. We normally call that do practice Islam with whatever you wish to wear (which itself is a point of liberalism).

If we talk about our advertisements which also highlights our culture dominance but somehow their content started evolving the western culture and norms. Now the whole central point of our advertisement is the women objectification, not a single ad is complete without showcasing a woman. We have billboards of different brands which are objectifying women so openly whereas it is the same state wherein 90’s there was the law which stated that not a single woman is allowed on-camera without a dupatta on their head. So that’s how we get influenced by the culture of different nations through mass media evolution.

In concluding the whole point, we need to accept the fact that media evolution has a great impact on our social behaviors.
