A Brotherhood refers to any group of people that share the same ideologies, these similar ideologies are often about their faiths. One of the biggest ancient brotherhoods is freemasonry; there are over six million freemasons all over the world, with just over 200,000 in the UK. This would make it the 13st biggest religion in the world. However Brotherhoods are not classified as religions; therefore don’t appear on the top religions list. The first reference to Freemasonry was in 1390 however the first organized lodge was created in London in 1717. Freemasonry is broken down into separate masonic bodies that all have slightly different views and beliefs to each other’s.

For example in England the most common masonic body is the Holy Royal Arc, however across the pond in the USA the most common masonic body is that of the York rite. A lodge in freemasonry is a local organisation these are usually under the control of a state/governing body or a grand lodge, there is no international level of lodge and each country is welcome to govern their lodges as they fill fit. The lodges are the meeting places of the freemasons, and are where they go to settle formal business of any small organisation for example where they pay bills and indoctrinate new members in to the freemasons. In other words the lodge of the freemasons is basically their base of operation for all things that they do, it is where you would most commonly meet and discuss things with your other masons.

To join the freemason’s one must be a good character that the lodge can trust and that they will believe that the person won’t betray them. The person must normally know a member who is already in the lodge to introduce them to the ways of the freemasons; they then have to make a request to join. Their request is then looked at and the leader of the lodge decides to allow them to join or if they should be rejected. I accepted they will have to sit an interview that will be the deciding factor in whenever they are accepted into the lodge or not. The candidate has to not be under the control of anyone else and this also normally includes being a specific age to join as anyone under the age of 18 in most countries would be considered as being under the control or their parent/guardian.

In similar terms the person who wants to join the lodge as a freemason must be a grown up person who is responsible for their own actions, the person also has to be male as women are not allowed to be freemasons, the only exception being if a man in the lodge changes to a women, they may be allowed to continue to be in the lodge. I believe that this ideology is due to its bases in medieval culture as it was founded in around the 1400s where culture of the time was very much that women weren’t meant to do anything of their own choice and they would just stay at home and cook and clean. This old fashioned idea that the freemasons seems to follow shows their ineptitude to adapt the changes and advances in technology in the world around them. The freemasons are so old fashioned because their morals are to be good people so they followed what their opinions of what right and wrong are so they do see the reason in moving on with the times, they can continue to be good people without knowing all about technology.

Most freemasons believe in a supreme being, meaning that they believe in something similar to God, a person who is above everyone else and has absolute power. In some extreme cases the people have to be a certain religion for example Christian to join the freemasons. However the other side of freemasons are the Liberals who accept anyone despite their religious choices, this includes atheists, as they believe that only a person’s character should matter not what or whom they choose to worship.

There have been many famous people that were freemasons, including 14 Presidents of the United States, from George Washington to Gerald Ford. This number of Presidents equals to around 1/3 of all presidents, however this number is only known freemasons and many more may have been but decided not to tell anyone. These powerful people have shaped the world around us, to things that people use every day. Many of you may have heard that the eye in the pyramid on the back of the one dollar bill is a symbol of the Illuminati, however it actual has roots in both Christianity and Freemasonry. The Pyramid and eye is a symbol in freemasonry but also represents God looking down on everyone. You can join up the letters that spell out Mason on the one dollar bill and a symbol will be formed, a symbol of the freemasons.

Now many of you may have heard or have played the assassins creed, now most of you will see this game as nothing more than a fun way to pass the time, but what if I tell you that game is frightfully accurate, from the groups within it, to the locations of assassinations. Now in the game there are two groups the Knights Templar and the assassins.

Both of these groups have existed in history, the Knights Templar and Hashashins, both came into existence around the time of the Crusades. The Knights Templar, founded in 1119, were fighters in the Crusades who protected the pilgrims in the holy land from attacks in the outer parts of the Holy land as they were common to attacks. However as the Holy land was lost their popularity faded as well and in 1307 in France many of its members were arrested and burnt at the stake, then it was formal disbanded in 1312 by Pope Clement V.

The Hashahins however were vastly different they preferred to be the ones starting the conflicts, they captured many fortresses in mountains allowing them to strike quickly and in cover, in ways they used an early form of Guerrilla Warfare. They chose tactical times to attack causing devastating injuries on opposing armies, while remaining largely unharmed, thus they won many battles my slowly pushing their enemies into surrender rather than fighting them in open combat. The Mongols finally destroyed the order in 1275 as their Iman surrendered their castles to the Mongols. However during their reign of terror the Hashashins were feared by many a crusader due to their unnatural ways of combat, meaning the crusaders had to understand how to combat their fighting style.

Brotherhoods can be the source of many a great conspiracy, the biggest and most common one being the existence of the NWO/New World Order/the illuminati. The idea that a secret group is behind the scenes, commanding world governments, militaries; getting ready to take over the world. The most common group associated with this conspiracy is the illuminati.

The illuminati may be surrounded in mystery, but at one point in time they actually existed. In 1776 they were formed by Adam Weishaupt and their goal was to counter superstition and governments abusing power. Despite their group being banned along with other societies like the freemasons in the 1780s and 90s many people believe they went underground and continue to exist to this day. The illuminati is claimed to be still around by other groups who claim to relate to the original. These new groups have been accused of masterminding society and causing many political events like the French revolution.

These accusations have led to the new “illuminati” to become a superstition for many people, meaning they are against the original goals of the illuminati in 1776. The illuminati has become a sort of collective name for any group that tries to or claim to be part of the original illuminati despite their completely different ideologies. Many groups that people believe that luck in the shadows and control world events are often compared to the illuminati or are said to be part of the illuminati. The illuminati is said to be in control of many things including governments, books and movies in a way to manipulate people into blindly following them. The idea of a group that controls people from the shadows helps people to have someone to blame when something happens that they wouldn’t expect someone to normally do, so they blame the NWO.

Brotherhoods have changed society a lot over their existence, from actually groups like the Freemasons that still exist and have altered famous people minds such as the 14 US presidents who were freemason and therefore shared their ideologies about certain agendas. People always blame other people for their misfortune and if the group is exclusive and somewhat secret they are an easy target for large scale abusive and ridicule from people who blame them for things they aren’t even connected to. The illuminati is now a house hold name for anything that people believe affects life without directly showing themselves to the general population. This is why many brotherhoods have a bad name without deserving it, however one brotherhood does deserve the bad name it has, Scientology.

Scientology was a former brotherhood that is now a religion that was formed in1952. The reason they became a religion and a church is so that they don’t have to pay taxes on any money they get because the money is consider a gift and therefore has no taxes. Scientology has some horrible ways that force people to never leave after they join. When you join you are made to tell a camera some of your darkest secrets which are then locked in vault, however if you want to leave they blackmail you saying they will releases them to the public which causes a problem for celebrities. The celebrities can’t risk having some of their deepest secrets leaked to the public which could distain their public image. Scientology is also known for spending money to fund anti-gay protest in an attempt to cure homosexuality to spread their ideal idea of society.

Overall Scientology use horrible forms of blackmail to get what they want or to stop members form leaving their cult like religion, the more remarkable thing is that some people actively follow these people and worship them. The church of Scientology also takes part in some horrendous actions to change the world into their image, although they claim to believe in science they seem to act more like a cult who believe in very weird motives that go against most in societies views. In my opinion Scientology is a horrible excuse of a brotherhood let along a religion that part take in actives to push forward their bizarre and socially unacceptable ideas.

As a whole brotherhoods are groups of people who all stand together for what they believe in, some stand for good and peaceful ideas while some like Scientology stand alone with their devil like ideas and doings to get what they believe in. Most brotherhoods are a good thing for society as they help to bring people together and help to further society views and allow people to work together to change the world into what they see right. Others exist only to protect others, such as the Knights Templar who was created to protect the crusaders in Jerusalem as they were fighting for the holy land and doing the right things in the ideas of Christianity.

Brotherhoods stand to serve their members and the people around them in any way they seem as right for the time either by physically protecting them or by othering them an alternate opinion on life as a whole. That’s why I believe that Brotherhoods are a good thing for society as long as they don’t become like a cult and begin to move away for what is morally acceptable.
