Population Growth as the Cause of Global Warming and Climate Change

Global warming has entered the whole world. Now we are experiencing global warming and its impacts. Climate change has positive and negative impacts but has more negative impacts on the environment. The impacts resulting from climate change include warmer temperatures, severe storms, increased droughts, rising temperatures and sea levels, species loss, food  shortages, poverty and displacement and health risks. Various impacts caused by global warming can be prevented by changing the behavior of the world community, especially in the way they consume products of daily needs. Here I want discuss one of the main causes of global warming and climate change. In this essay I will write about population growth and how it affects our world.

Most people think global warming and climate change are interchangeable, when in fact they are two different things. Climate change is affected by global warming. Climate change refers to the increasing changes in the measures of climate over a long period of time – including precipitation, temperature, and wind patterns. Global warming is the rise in temperature due to increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Population growth is increasing every year and the population growth is uneven. The increase in population can lead to an increase in the number of energy needs, especially since fossil fuels dominate the energy sources that have been used so far. The use of energy from fossil fuels will cause greenhouse gas emissions which are the cause of global warming and climate change. Population growth and global climate change are problems faced in various parts of the world. The very rapid population growth will seriously affect the balance of natural resources, not only that, but consumption needs will also increase due to the increasingly rapid population growth. Every human being has a variety of different needs ranging from basic needs to complementary needs, the needs of humans are very numerous, and the number is not limited, while the necessary needs will only be fulfilled if there are reserves of natural resources that still exist and are sufficient. If the population growth is increasing day by day, it exceeds the limit of reserves for sources of demand, it is certain that one day a period of crisis will occur.Ž

One example of global warming that occurs in Indonesia is extreme and unpredictable weather changes. Indonesia has two seasons, namely the rainy season and the dry season. In the past, the change of seasons could be predicted by calculation of the months in the calendar, but now it can't be calculated, sometimes the morning can be very hot but during the day it rains heavily. That is one example of climate change and global warming that is happening in Indonesia. And Indonesia also has a very large population. Population growth is also uneven, there are still many people who do not have a proper place to live and work. On the other hand, many residents who have a decent place to live and work must have a vehicle, starting from a car or motorbike. In Indonesia, itself, people leave their homes or go anywhere using private vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, and others. Very few people use public transportation. As a result, in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, air pollution is increasing day by day, due to increasing population growth, and people who always use private vehicles. You can imagine how much air pollution due to motorized vehicles is produced if every individual in society uses a private vehicle to travel. More air pollution causes increased global warming and climate change.

Urbanization which caused by population growth results in the growth of motorized vehicles, reduced green open space, lifestyle changes that encourage the growth of energy consumption, dependence on petroleum as an energy source, and a lack of public awareness about air pollution and its control. The rapid rate of population growth and the development of economic activities in developing countries tend to cause widespread and widespread environmental damage. Global warming comes from Green House Gas (GHG) emissions caused by increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO) gas due to the burning of fuel oil (BBM), coal, and other organic fuels that exceed the ability of plants to absorb them.

To conclude this essay about climate change and global warming, rapid population growth will result in pressure on natural resources such as increasing the need for food, clean water, and so on. And so there is a balance between the supply of natural resources and human needs. The increase in population will cause the need for housing and public infrastructure to increase as well, and this will have an impact on the tendency for an accelerated conversion of agricultural land to non-agricultural land. So that many agricultural lands such as rice fields and plantations are converted into residential areas, factories, office areas, hospitals, and so on. When the population is increasing, the area of the agricultural areas that are converted functioning is also getting bigger, this will result in decreased agricultural production which at it speak will cause a country to be forced to import food raw materials for the country.
