People I Admire – Leonard Kleinrock, Emile Cohl And Pierre Omidyar

There are many people to admire in the world. Some are admired due to their contribution in the society, workplace or may be the whole world. Likewise, I do admire and get influenced by many people’s life and their works. If I am to go for a list I suppose I will put Leonard Kleinrock, Emile Cohl and Pierre Omidyar among the top in my list. Their contribution in the society may not seem too much at that time but they plant the seed of advancement which they were unaware.

Leonard Kleinrock

Leonard Kleinrock is a talented person. His ingenuity amazes me. He planted the seed for bring people and communication closer virtually. Leonard Kleinrock was an American born in New York City on the 13th June 1934. He was 2nd in his family and had an elder sister. He liked his elementary school due to the strict rules and regulations totally different from his family life. He became an engineer at the age of 6 when he was reading a comic of superman and found a plan to build a crystal radio. He collected a blade from his father, his pencil lead, paper role, and some wires. These were easy for him to find but he needed two more additional pieces, a speaker which was little difficult to procure and a variable capacitor. He took a speaker from a public phone booth and a clerk gave him the last piece. So in short he built his first radio free of cost. At the age of eight he read a book called the Elements of Radio by Marcus which motivated him to get in the field of engineering and astonishing part is he understood the book at his early age.

After completing his High school he found out that he cannot go to the college as he has to support his family. So he went to evening college and worked fulltime as a radio engineer. With all the hardship he completed his Bachelor in Electrical Engineering in the year 1957 from the City College New York. He then completed his Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT.Dr. Leonard Kleinrock later achieved many things.

He became advisor of Live Matrix, he himself is the founder of Nomadix, Inc. Linkabit Corporation and TTI (The Technology Transfer Institute). He became the Chairman of Nomadix, Director of TechHealth, Inc. and Director of the International Engineering Consortium.

From his early age he was inventive. He is said to be the Father of Internet. Although it is not the internet as we know now. Many other minds contribute the bit by bit to the structure now we see. But he planted the seed. He was person behind the mathematical theory of packet switching and he was the first person to send a message among the server between two computers and which was a blueprint of the todays internet.

Now a day Internet has become a very important part of our life. Internet makes everyone connected and improves our lifestyle. Back in the 1969 September the 2nd, who would have thought that this theory one day will mold to this fine tech.

Emile Cohl

Emile Cohl was a hardworking creative person. He had a vision and he saw things differently. He introduced a new film production in the world. He is said to be the father of Animation.

In reality there is no much information about Emile Cohl. He was a French artist, cartoonist. He was born on the 4th of January 1857, Paris, France and he died in the year 1938 January 20 City of Paris. In his early life he lost his mother. At the age of fifteen he started working under a jeweler though his interests was in drawing. In between his 20 to 29 he worked as an artist, cartoonist and a writer.

He had a genius hand because at the end of early 19th century he became a recognized Illustrator, cartoonist, director, author, comedian, painter, designer, journalist even he was a good magician.

In 1890s Cohl introduced a new kind of movie to the world where still picture will come to life. It was shown at Grevin Museum with optical theatre. Later In 1906 his works become popular and the world discovered a new type of movie, which the French called American Movement. In 1908 he got a new job at Gaumont Film Company. From the year 1908 to 1923 he worked with many studios and delivered around three hundreds cartoon animation. Little is known about his education background or the problems he went through before his death. But it is said that he became a poor man due to a Depression. He lost his fortune in the early 1930s.We know a very little about people like Emile Cohl who contributed and changed the movie industry at that time. His small steps towards animation have come a long way. I am fascinated about him because even he had no choice but to work as a jeweler he never gave up his passion and due to his determination he presented us something no one has ever seen in his time.

Pierre Omidyar

Pierre Omidyar as we all know the founder of Ebay. But only few people know that he works and like to work with projects where people will be benefited. In short he uses market to help people.

Pierre Omidyar was born in Paris France, 21 June 1967. Even though he never planned to be an internet magnate but he was a genius and his first computer program was written at his fourteenth year to catalogue book in a library. He got interested in computer when he was at his grade nine.

He completed his graduation from Tufts University in the year 1988 and work in a company who worked with macintosh software. Later he also had a privilege to work in apple. In the 1996 Microsoft bought a company named eshop which was previously known as Ink Development Corp. a software company where Pierre Omidyar contributed his talent.

In the year 1995 eBay came to the market which was supposed to be echobay but due to another company Echo Bay Mines Omidyar had to settle eith eBay. Before 1995 eBay was a personal website which was famous as auction web.

In the year 1998 when ebay became a popular site Pierre Omidyar was named as chairman and later it expands to other countries. His idea of helping people with market fascinates me. He and his wife originated a network called Omidyar Network with a sole purpose of helping people by using market.
