Passion as a Key for Success in Working Environment
Passion is best described as a strong commitment to work and work-related activities. Participants are willing to spend considerable time and energy at work. Passion is manifest in performance, creativity, imagination, and ingenuity. Individuals who are passionate about work like to fully focus on their work tasks and enjoy their work (Vallerand and Houlfort 2003). Passion for work leads to professional success and life satisfaction.
Today people are more likely to pursue their career passionately. In this era, some individuals who are emotionally attached to work are known as obsessive work passion. Individuals with obsessive work passion are compelled to invest in work, because of external and internal pressures (Vallerand and Houlfort 2003; Vallerand et al. 2003). Not only do obsessively passionate people like to spend their whole day at work, but also they bring office work home. This leads to many negative impacts on their family life. Although work passion has been linked to various work outcomes, including job satisfaction, commitment, performance, and burnout (Burke and Fiksenbaum 2009; Philippe et al. 2009; Vallerand and Houlfort 2003). Individuals with work passion willingly take part in work activities and originate pleasure from such engagement (Vallerand et al. 2003). These individuals love their work and observe it be fun (Vallerand and Houlfort 2003).
Researchers have theorized and empirically supported the link between work passion and one of the most critical work outcomes, employee performance (Ho et al. 2011). Moreover, evidence shows that passionate people are more cooperative and positive to their colleagues. Their positive attitude helps them to build new relations with staff. For example, during breaks, passionate employees communicate with their colleagues about non-work activities, chat on the phone with family members, or have a relaxing walk outside. However, during work time people with passion concentrate on the work task and experience positive emotions from their work (Zigarmi et al. 2009). They even they found to say good about the company employee and its environment. Passionate individuals like spend the time to deal with work-related issues. Usually people with passion have more resources to invest in work and they are energetic at work. work passion aims at boosting one’s self-esteem, receiving organizational rewards or acceptance into a group and/or organization at high level. Passion is associated with an increase in work satisfaction and a decrease in conflict (Vallerand et al. 2010) passionate employees continue their work as long as it remains enjoyable and do not like to interfere with other life (Vallerand and Houlfort 2003). Under these conditions, no mental stress increased in work performance is likely. Employees with passion may find time to participate in organizational events and volunteer help to co-workers or managers. Sturges and Guest (2004) concluded that passionate individuals be likely to be more satisfied with a career that helps enhances their personal lifestyles. Passion promotes healthy adaptation and thus positive work outcomes.
Moving ahead, passion creates emotion of ﬂow and well-being that lead to ﬁnding a new and innovative solutions (Forest et al., 2011 Lavigne, Forest and Crevier-Braud, 2012) improve attention to aspect (Ho, Wong and Lee 2011) and leads to higher job creativity (Liu Chen and Yao,2011) passion, on the other hand, is positively related to subjective well-being (Rousseau and Vallerand, 2008) and positive affect (Stoeber et al., 2011), and improves learning and the ability to incorporate feedback (Lavigne, Forest and Crevier-Braud, 2012). Importantly, valler and colleague (2015) proved passion not only encompasses the idea that individual likes the activity, but also that activity is important for them and they see in relation to the activity. Individuals with passion have strong reasoning skills (critical thinking) tend to be more effective at harnessing their energy and creating harmonious passion through constructive activities such as goal setting. Incorporating critical thinking reduces burnout, and enhances work-life balance. Employee with passion has greater levels of mindfulness because it helps individuals focus on the task at hand. Mindful individuals engage in several skill sets, including observation, awareness, and acceptance. This means it is likely that they can inﬂuence their own work satisfaction, but also that they may show a great variety in terms of their thoughts at work and off work.
To sum up, passion is a key to success. A higher level of passion has a positive direct effect on work satisfaction. Passionate workers equally balance their professional and personal life. Passion creates a win-win situation for the employees and the association.
