Tecumseh was born in present-day Ohio in 1768. He was a famous Indian leader. Tecumseh’s father’s name was Puckshinwa. His father died in a battle that was at point pleasant during 1774. Tecumseh had 1 brother named Tenskwatawa, 2 sisters who were named Tecumapease and Nehaaeemo. Tecumseh married 2 women in his life: Mohnetohse and Mamate. Tecumseh and Mohnetohse had a son named Mahyawwekawpawe and Cheeseekau. Tecumseh divorced Mohnetohse and his sister Tecumapease helped to raise his sons. Then Mamate his second wife died after she gave birth to his third son mahyawwekawpawe. Tecumseh was probably the most important leader during that time period for multiple reasons. One of them was that he was the leader of the Pan-Indian movement (1768-1813). He also took part in multiple raids that happened at Kentucky and Tennessee during the 1780s. After those raids, he came up as the prominent chief by the 1800s. He also took part in the battle Tippecanoe where a settlement that he helped establishing named Prophetstown was destroyed.
Later on, Tecumseh fought in the war of 1812 alongside the British army. Tecumseh was a military leader and was also the leader of a First Nations Confederacy. He teamed up with the British because he wanted to defeat the American while he was still trying to get all the aboriginal tribes together. Tecumseh was declared as the hero of the war of 1812 because never gave up even when the British did. About 15, 000 American’s died in the war of 1812. Tecumseh died in the battle of Thames where they were outnumbered in forces by 500 to 3000. Even after this much of a difference in the number of their soldiers he still fought until he was shot and killed.
Lord Selkirk was another important figure in British North America’s history. Lord Selkirk’s full name was Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk. He was born in Kirkcudbright on June 20, 1771. He was a Scottish peer. He was an outstanding contributor. He came to England in 1804, then he got married to a girl in 1807 named Jean Wedderburn-Colville. By the year 1808 Selkirk also started investing in stocks in the Hudson’s Bay company. Then later in life, his attention moved to the west towards the Red River Valley. It made him think about migration. He started sponsoring immigrants in Canada. He set up the Red River colony which is also known as the Selkirk settlement in 1811. This settlement was established on an estimate on 300, 000 square kilometers of land. This land was given to Selkirk by the Hudson’s Bay Company as a grant.
Selkirk went back home in the year 1818. Lord Selkirk’s death occurred at Pau which is in France on April 18, 1820. Isaac Brock was born on October 6, 1769, at St. Peter Port on the island of Guernsey. He went to school in Guernsey, Southampton and Rotterdam. When Isaac Brock was 15 years old, he joined the army. He became a British army officer and was a colonial administrator from Guernsey. Isaac Brock became the major general in the year 1811 and was in charge of the British army. Brock got known as the hero of Upper Canada after he captured Detroit from the U. S during the war of 1812. He defended upper Canada when the U. S attacked Great Britain in 1812. After the U. S invaded Canada Brock counterattacked. Brock had an army of approximately 1300 soldiers and he teamed up with Tecumseh who had an army of about 600 native men. Together they had close to 2000 men. William Hull had an army of approximately 2, 500 soldiers.
Even after being outnumbered brock did not give up but attacked in full force. General William Hull accepted defeat even without firing a single bullet. Brock died on October 13, 1812 in the battle of the Queenston heights. The battle went on for 2 more years, but Upper Canada won the battle in 1814. All things considered, Tecumseh, Lord Selkirk, and Isaac Brock all made really important contributions to the history of Canada. Tecumseh started the Pan-Indian movement and got all the Indian tribes together. He also won the war of 1812.
Lord Selkirk set up the Red River colony which is also known as the Selkirk settlement. Isaac Brock defended Upper Canada from the U. S in the war of 1812 and also teamed up with Tecumseh and captured Detroit while having fewer soldiers with them then General William Hull.
