How Hate Speech Is Affecting On People

Prejudices and hate speech have been around since the beginning of human society. The effects have been long recorded, analyzed, and documented. Hate speech can have a toxic effect, and cause victims to self hate. Constant verbal pollution in school can also affect students. Students have mainly reported incidents of hate speech about their race, next ethnicity, then sexual orientation. This can affect school performance, and kids are more likely to express fear at school. Hate is making the already tough school system, even harder. Hate crimes have increased 62% on colleges campuses. Anti-Gay slurs are common, and students claim teachers seldom do anything. Experiences can affect a students school performance as well. Also, teachers have admitted to seeing an increase in Nazi signs, salutes, and Confederate flags.

According to an online survey, Muslims are the second most attacked group online. There are policies being developed by states and groups to help fight discrimination against muslims. The overall increase in Muslim hate crime is tremendous. Media and surveys show that muslims are feared and distrusted, and many communities have complained they do not want any Mosques in their neighborhood. People in office positions have claimed they believe mosques are controlled by Islamic Extremists. Although muslims receive an excessive amount of hate, immigrant citizens do as well. According to Southern Poverty Law Center, “Anti-immigrant hate groups are the most extreme of the hundreds of nativists and vigilante groups that have proliferated since the late 1990s when anti-immigration xenophobia began to rise to levels not seen in the United States since the 1920s. New York Times stated “There are 11 million people living under the law.” Some will bring violence and some will continue to try and assimilate to american culture. There are some anti-immigrant groups that seem to promote white supremacy.

Over 900 hate groups have been tracked throughout the U.S. Hate groups that promote Nazi agenda tend to be thought as the most deadly. Anti-Jewish protests can be expected from Neo Nazi groups like the National Socialist Movements, and the American Vangaurd. Many black separatists believe they should receive separate facilities and communities. Although many people just see black racism as a response to centuries of white racism, hate groups are classified by their agenda and judged by the same criteria. Many believe hate has no place in our society and see there should not be any hate groups regardless of color.

Many white supremacy groups believe other races are trying to conquer their land. Some white nationalists and separatists think that most of the power should be given to their race, and they strongly believe they were made superior to other races. The underground hate group the alt right, are a hostile white nationalist hate group who usually tend to aim their actions towards gays and are usually openly racist.
