Finding What Makes America Great: The Country Of Opportunities

Trump’s whole campaign was revolved around “Making America Great Again” but in reality, it’s always been great. When people talk about our country, all they hear about are the negatives. Whether people realize it or not, America is a great place to live. As a teen that has grown up and lived in a small town all her life, I have been exposed to many different opinions on what rights should be given. All of these, opinions add up to why America is such a great country to live in.

What exactly makes people think that America is great? Is it the chances you’re given to become whatever you dream to be? Or maybe it’s the rights we’re given to have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. We’ve all heard the term “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” what seems like millions of times within our lifetime, but what exactly does that mean? Many things have taken part in making America into the great country it is today, one being the Constitution. The Constitution makes up all laws residing in the United States and describes how government works. Each state within the United States also has their own personal Constitution, however, the United States’ Constitution is still superior to those. The Constitution plays a huge role in America’s greatness because it is what keeps the country together. Before it was established, the government was just beginning to emerge. When the Constitution was made, according to Aaron Rice, it allowed people to make decisions and lead themselves on a path that they thought was best for themselves. They were no longer to be controlled by the government. While creating the Constitution, the Founding Fathers didn’t look hundreds of years into the future, they did what was best for the citizens of the United States at that moment in time. This altogether is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason why America is so great.

Furthermore, our right to freedom of speech and freedom of religion both also play big roles in making America great. Freedom of speech seems simple enough, right? You get to say whatever you feel, whenever you feel like doing so. However, it is simply not that easy. Even though freedom of speech is our right to speak without restraint, there are still certain things that are prohibited. For instance, a person can’t incorrectly shout “fire!” in a crowded area because someone could easily get hurt due to the chaos that would follow. However, what makes freedom of speech one of the main components in making America great is that it allows citizens to stand up for what they believe in. This could be anything from someone holding up a sign that could be controversial to someone wearing clothing with provocative statements represented. We as humans have the right to express our emotions, concerns, and beliefs on what we believe is right. Also, there is freedom of religion. Freedom of religion is more than just being able to worship freely. In the article “What You Need to Know About Religious Freedom”, it explains how freedom of religion allows people to practice whatever they believe in, or maybe not even practice anything at all. This, just like the Constitution and freedom of speech, also plays a pretty big role in making America great. It protects people so that they can publicly speak and live according to what religion they practice. Both of these take up a big chunk in why America is a great country.

In conclusion, America as a whole is a great country for many more reasons than just these. However, these are some of the biggest factors. America is great because we as citizens are allowed to live freely and live the lives that we want to, we can say what we want without any further judgement, and lastly we can practice whatever religion we want and be protected while doing so. As a teen that has been exposed to many different beliefs, I can proudly say I am happy to be able to live the life that I want to without being frowned upon.
