Discussing What Challenges Do You Anticipate During Nursing School

Medical school is stressful, and it takes a lot of hard work. Throughout the four-year medical process, students will learn a wide range of things from basic everyday symptoms to some of the rarest things. The first two years students learn skills they will need to accomplish in order to be a successful nurse or doctor. The last two years is usually when the students will start clinical rounds and get more patient exposure. Clinical rounds are when students shadow different doctors at a hospital that has a teaching school (Clinical rotations). Every two to four weeks, students move to a different department of the hospital. The third and fourth years are usually very stressful because they require a lot of work and undivided time. This is when most students figure out what they like the most. There are many reasons why one of the major stressors of being a medical student is doing rounds.

The whole process of medical school all begins with one test. They must pass a test called the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Included in the test are four sections which are Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (Choosing Medical Career 8). After taking and passing the MCAT the students must pass four years of medical school. The requirements for graduating is completing eight weeks in medicine and surgery, six weeks of obstetrics and gynecology, and four weeks of family medicine, psychiatry, neurology, and radiology (11- Year 2 Clinical rotations). There are also other requirements that have to do with clinical skills. Those are clinical skill courses, which teaches the required skills, clinical skills foundation 2, and that helps improve students interactions with patients, and the last is CDHD which is the Cultural Department of Health and Health Disparities 2, which is an in depth study of what is learned in the first year (11-Year 2 Clinical rotations). After understanding all the requirements, what is medical school really like and what should students expect? Medical school is a class that takes four years, the first two years is learning basic concepts and everyday uses. The last two years is getting exposure to patients and patient interaction.

The first two years of being in medical school can start off tough because this is the beginning of four years of lots of hard work and research. First, learning basic treatment is the most important because this is what is used almost every day. During the second year of school, students are required to take two periods of their choice. The periods last two weeks and they teach the students subspecialties, which are different fields that focus on one specific thing such as cardiology, dermatology, or anesthesiology, that is not taught during rounds (School of Medicine). Another very basic and important skill that is taught is face to face conversations. This is important because students need to know how to have conversations with patients, parents, care takers, and even their bosses. 

Next, after having almost two years done with school, students begin to learn about rotations. (Rotations officially start in the third year of school but is taught during the end of the second year) Interaction with patients is very important and doing rotations and rounds helps and gives students different opportunities to be able to expand both their nursing and interaction skills (Medical School 101). Learning about the first year rotations often puts a lot of stress of students. This is because the students are just starting face to face interactions with patients (Science of Scheduling). Finally, learning basic things such as how to have conversations with patients and knowing what the right or more efficient thing to do helps relieve stress on students and plays a key role in being the best and most successful student they can be.
