Pottery is a huge part of Pakistani culture especially in Sindh, Hala, Khumar road etc. it is used at various places in the world except for Pakistan that is, India, Siri Lanka, Japan, Korea, Africa, Spain ets. These clay utensils need 20 different step to make one pot from making dough to the drying process. This art is practicing in Sindh since decades, people are earning their lives from this art piece as profession. Children in ruler areas play with these pots. It is also used as decoratory items with diff designs and art work for example mirror work, hand paint, hand craft etc. Sheherezada Alam the one who make these pots said that:“Clay teaches you. It teaches you to take the blows with joys.
You need to be attentive. If you do a little and leave it, the clay will abandon you. ”She further said that:“I have a friendship with my work. The force in me comes from the pots themselves… after all we are all from clay. ”It is also famous for its different vibrant colors like red, blue, yellow, orange, green etc, light colors are never used in pottery. Different shapes are for different things like as a light pot, handi, money saving box etc. Pottery is not only the mass culture of Pakistan but it also has some Islamic, economic and health benefits. These clay pots are cheap as compared to the modern steel utensils. There are many food item which are made in clay pots, in Pakistan clay ports are used even in restaurants to serve some specific famous dishes like handi. As per Islam our Prophet Mohammad (SAW) also used to have water in clay pot, it is said that if we keep water in earthenware pot it will remain cold, it also purifies the water and kill bacteria and viruses. People also believe that making mots is like yoga, it is said that:“Clay surrenders to your strength, but you have to surrender back”Clay pots are a healthy cooking substitute modestly because they help the ingredients retain their nutrients and vitamins during cooking. Foods taste a lot more exciting and tender than with other forms of utensils as the juiciness is kept in the food.
The food will preserve its natural flavors, but you can still enrich the taste with seasoning. No need to add excessive oil or butter to the food because clay has a non-stick feature which is good for cholesterol patient. is also gives natural salt taste in the food that is there is no need of salt so that we can save resources. The natural alkaline feature marge with acidic foods and take on an organic sweetness furthermore. Clay let the heats moves inside the pot so that food is cook before time. Since this art is practiced before partition as well and earlier people were healthier as compared to the modern era. We don’t have any doubt on it that after passing many decades this art and clay material is still exist in the world with a lot of benefits so it will remain long last among us I personally feel that as time passes science will definitely find ore benefits of it and this all believes will be proven scientifically and other steel harmful utensils will be band. This clay material is entirely made from natural substances with no chemicals or preservatives in it which can effect human health.
