Biography of Bernie Sanders American Politician

Bernie Sanders is 78 years old, born on September 8th, 1941 in New York. He attended James Madison High School, and later attended Brooklyn college then later transferred to the University of Chicago, graduating with a degree in political science (Lindsay, 2019). He participated in many movements early on to help support the needs of the less fortunate. Bernie Sanders was apart of the Civil Rights Movement and was a member of the Congress of Racial Equality where he participated in a sit-in for segregation for off-campus housing (Golshan, 2019). He was also apart of the Student Nonviolent Organizer Committee as an organizer.

After he graduated college he pursued several jobs such as a filmmaker, freelance writer, teacher for low income children, and psychiatric aides (Haltiwanger, 2019). His political interests begin to grow throughout his career path in which he then bidded on the Anti-War Liberty Union War Party for public officer. Sanders ended up leaving the Anti-War Liberty Union Party in 1979 and was elected as mayor in 1981 for Burlington, Vermont (Golshan, 2019). Then in 2006, Bernie Sanders decided to switch to Senate and to run against a Republican, Richard Tarrant and won (Haltiwanger, 2019).

After going back and forth with George W. Bush in 2010 about tax cuts for the wealthy, he came to the conclusion that the legislation was an unfair place and concluded his time on the Senate floor. Sanders has advocated for many things such as expansion on voting rights and he has been apart of several committees giving his time to give more people better opportunities (Golshan, 2019). Then, in 2015 he verbally announced that he will be running for presidential nomination for the Democratic Party. As a nominee for the Democratic Party, Sanders has said he wants to improve inequalities, taxes, rates, wages, education, social security, and medicare (Pramuk, 2019).

Bernie Sanders has stated that he wants to run for president in order to improve the lives of the lower class. He believes there should be a minimum wage of 15$ an hour for workers in order to increase income amounts and provide a more stable job for many workers (Pramuk, 2019). Bernie Sanders also stands for eliminating tuition at public colleges in efforts to support the education of individuals without having to worry about the cost and outcome of debt. Unlike the other democratic nominees, he has also said that he wants to make efforts to improve international cooperation including an increase in problems involving militarism, authoritarian, climate change, and global wealth inequality (Pramuk, 2019). Sanders is focused on improving the rights of the people, maintaining world peace, and trade policies which benefit corporations (Lindsay, 2019) and workers which is vital for a stable economy and stability and equality within the country which would be ideal for the United States.
