Amir Khan is a multi-talented professional British boxer who has held several world titles courtesy of his exceptional boxing style and unparalleled records. Amazingly, he was the WBA Light-welterweight champion from 2009 to 2012. He also won the IBF championship in 2011 and many others. Born in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England on December 8, 1986; Khan began his amateur boxing career at the age of 11. As an amateur, he won the junior ABA titles and was the gold medalist at the 2003 Junior Olympics.
One of his most popular fights during his amateur career was with Victor Ortiz whom he defeated in a second round knockout. He completed his amateur career with a record of 101 wins and 9 losses. Turning pro in 2005, Khan made his first professional outing when he fought David Bailey in July that year. He won the Commonwealth lightweight championship title after defeating Willie Limond in July 2007. The following year, he clinched his first WBA International lightweight title after beating Manny Pacquiao on December 6, 2008.
In 2009, Khan won the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title after his triumph over Marco Antonio and he also won the WBA ligh-welterweight title the same year. He defeated Carlos Molina in December 2012 to claim the vacant WBC Silver interim light-welterweight title. He also won the WBA International and vacant WBC Silver welterweight title in 2014.
However, he suffered a great loss to Canelo Alvarez in May 2016 while Alvarez hitched the WBC, The Ring and Lineal middleweight titles. Throughout his professional career, Amir Khan has fought for 37 times, winning 33 and losing 4 times.
In addition to his boxing career, Amir Khan is also a philanthropist and a television personality. He has his own charity organization called Amir Khan Foundation and he also founded his own sponsorship and promotions coy called Khan Promotion, among others. He has appeared on several television shows including the 17th series of ITV's show titled I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, among others.
