Some Challenges And Solutions Of Establishing Life On Mars
Mars one is an organization with the aim of sending humans to establish life on Mars, which is composed by scientists who have confidence that settling on Mars is feasible, they also believe that the humanity already have the technologies capable of sending the first human to Mars. Their predictions to accomplish this project is for 2025.
That organization is not supported by the government for being a non-for-profit and also they depend of donation to continue this expensive project.
Their estimation of cost is roughly six billion dollars whereas there are several people who believe that this aim is achievable and contribute with donation, at the moment it has been raised practically one million dollars.
Why do we need to start this project? One reason for settling life on Mars is because the resources in our would could run out one day, according to Robert Bailey, Oxfam’s Senior climate advisor, said “ by 2050, there will be nine billion people on the planet and demand for food will have increased by seventy per cent.” In other words, there will be so many people in the world that Earth will have difficulty in regenerating and supplying resources for the humanity.
Why is Mars the first target? Mars for being the the fourth planet in the order of the solar system, in other words, the closest planet from Earth has been chosen because it is more feasible to achieve and begin the settlement process.
Another reason is because the Mars’ Soil is very rich in resources as mineral in general, which would be advantageous for future constructions.
Challenges
First challenge to make this project reality is the financial funds, because the costs would be immerse. Fortunately there are many people who believe in this projects and donate funds, and there are also more than two hundred thousand people who applied to life on Mars
The distance is not the most challenge to settle life in Mars, one of the most difficult challenges is the planet Mars itself, because the planet is not habitable, for example the temperature can get down to minus forty degrees in the hottest area and below one hundred and forty degrees in the poles, and the surface is covered by dust and radiations which is deadly.
Another challenge is the water that exists on Mars but in ice format and located concentrated in few points of the planet, another resource is the air that is very thin mixed with dirt. These are some reasons that make Mars mortal and making it necessary to wear special suits to walk on the surface.
Solutions
To survive on the surfaces of Mars, it would be built bases with half on the surface and half underground, these bases would have all the resources to live inside, with several rooms as kitchen, bedrooms, greenhouses for plantations, entertainment rooms and laboratories, making it unnecessary to import basic resources from Earth
One of solutions founded was terraforming Mars, terraform is transforming a planet more habitable as earth, but to make it happen the scientists would need to heat whole the planet. one way would be creating a greenhouse effect as in our world. Another solution would be to blow up the concentrated ice spots with a hydrogen bomb spreading water across the planet.
