War of 1812: The State of the Country and Presidency at That Time
The united states was two different countries before and after the war of 1812. Beginning in june of 1812 the war hit all of the united stated weak spots which we them fixed after the war, so history would not repeat itself. Before the war the United States was a newly developed country looking to expand westward. Allied with both france and britain in the napoleonic war the united states was making money by trading with both sides. Britain began impressment on united states sailors to come and help the war. The united states was very good at staying out of europrean affairs until this happened. Both france and britain were upset that the united states was helping the other side, so they began to destroy US ships that they encountered on the opposing side, despite all of this the united states stayed faithful to their neutral status.
James Madison became president in 1809, beginning works with War Hawks. One major person in this group was henry clay. This group wanted war with not only france but the indians as well, who were refusing to help with the united states western expansion. Britain was 5 years into regulation the trade and taxes on the united states, which upset them because they would pay taxes on goods being shipped to anywhere in the world. June 1st of 1812 madison asked for a declaration of war, being the smallest margin for a war declaration, 79-49: 19-14, the united states declared war on the indians of north america. Britain a recent alli of the united states began working with the Indians by giving them guns and resources for the war. The battle of tippecanoe was the first battle of the war of 1812. In 1815 the treaty of Ghent was signed to end the war of 1812, ceasing fire and provided no true “winner”.
The United States almost went bankrupt during the war of 1812, however after the war in 1815 they created new banking systems improving the United States economy. The war also allowed a good amount of factories to open up, kicking off the industrial revolution. The united states improved their military and began westward movement, manifest destiny. The United States grew tremendously during the war and after, allowing the newing independent country to provide more for themselves. The United states before, and after the war was completely different, we learned a lot about how to advance our country. The growth in industrial, economic, and military helped the United States grow how they originally wanted to.
