The Role of Curiosity in the University Curriculum

The first and simplest emotion which we discover in the human mind is curiosity. As Plutarch’s pithy saying “The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled”. When curiosity combined with vision, the product is paramount. Yet, avision without an action is just a dream. Striving towards perfection has now been the basic objective of my life. For me perfection is to enhance knowledge in my specific field of interest, which will help me understand the related field in particular and thus enabling me to contribute to the advancement of society in general.This ardent desire has driven me into exploring avenues of analytic perfection; renovate to perform to optimal requirements. This intrinsic interest enabled me to channelize my thoughts and inquire into the field of Mechanical engineering and management. With Bachelors in mechanical engineering, where courses like Manufacturing, Production Technology, Design of Machine Elements, Industrial Engineering &Management aided me to attract and appreciate the processes of design, manufacturing, production and factory planning. With upcoming board changes in Design Engineering and Global Industrialization which has made the role of mechanical engineer crucial. I have a strong interest towards practical industrial work environment and therefore with this objective I wish to pursue my graduate studies in Germany.

The curriculum of M.S.UNIVERSITY was a judicious mix of theory and practice. My undergraduate study at the university was a rewarding experience, a game changer infact. My interaction with the faculty members developed my interest in the field of Mechanical Engineering. All my fellow college mates being excellent students, I experienced the vitality of competing with them and joy of learning from them. As my awareness of various concepts of mechanical engineering grew my zeal to understand them in greater detailed heightened. My undergraduate course in Thermodynamics, Strength of machine elements, Theory of machines & mechanisms, Design of machine elements, Manufacturing process, Fluid mechanics, etc. has provided me with a firm foundation of the basic principles of mechanical engineering and the courses in have provided commendable ground work for advanced studies. I had with college support organized many seminars, workshops and Industrial visits; which would provide a platform for us college students to interact with industry experts.

After completing my bachelors, I was focused on gaining more of practical knowledge. I have worked as an Engineer- Trainee in CEAT TYRES LTD since I graduated. Being trainee engineer, we were told to shift between various departments so as to understand the company procedures and working. My role was quite challenging yet interesting. Also, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience in this company pertaining to precision manufacture technology and stringent Quality norms. I have learnt how to articulate the seriousness of supplier performance, how to deal with different situations and moreover how to handle pressure during rough and tough times. The tenure at CEAT truly has been a value addition and hence they promoted me as ASSISTANT MANAGER in a very short span of time. This MS program at your esteemed university that I wish to pursue with an international attitude is an excellent industry related course of study which would give me an overwhelming pride & opportunity to work under the guidance of prolific faculty and facilities par excellence that can tune me to the technological shifts. As we compete with international students, we also would work together as a team to solve complex high tech problems which will help me prepare to meet the challenges in the real world.

Germany a land synonymous with quality products is true even in the field of educations. It’s a land of ideas, education, science & research. Its education system ensures practical knowledge in addition to solid theoretical foundation. Being centrally located in Europe it is oriented to international markets, a European leader in terms of growth, employment and export, thus making the German economy strongest in entire Europe with manufacturing & service sectors being the leading sectors in economic activities.I believe that getting an education in a country like Germany is an education itself. Living in such an environment with people with similar interest and aspiration is an enthralling experience in one’s personal, academic and professional life.
