The radio receives electromagnetic waves from the air that are sent by a radio transmitter. Electromagnetic waves are a combination of electrical and magnetic fields that overlap. The radio converts these electromagnetic waves, called a signal, into sounds that humans can hear. Guglielmo Marconi successfully sent the first radio message across the Atlantic Ocean in December 1901 from England to Newfoundland. It was mainly used at that time for soldiers to communicate. They are different types of radio stations such as, College Radio, which is used for a certain institute and is streamed only in institute is located and will end the streaming as the institute’s boundary ends. Another type is Police Radio which is used for patrolling. Another type is Shower Radio, which is water proofed and can be kept in the bathroom.

These were the most popular radio stations, there are also other kinds of stations such as, Batteryless radio, Crystal Radio, Utility Radio, Weather Radio, etc. The words “this is Pakistan Broadcasting Service” which went on air at the midnight of August 14, 1947, marked the birth of Radio Pakistan. It was converted into Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) on December 20, 1972 as a statutory body governed by the Board of Directors and the Director General. PBC objective is to be a credible and effective medium to promote Pakistan as a progressive Islamic country both at home and abroad. Now radio is mainly used for, news, celebrity or non-celebrity interviews, talk shows, music, birthday announcements, traffic routes, etc.
