The Need To Change Eating Junk Food To Healthy Food
How often do you eat junk food? Do you know exactly what you’re eating? Most junk food companies use artificial ingredients in their snacks or foods, this can cause multiple health problems for people later on in their lives. This is just one of the many reasons why people should eat less junk food. Junk food lacks high levels of proteins and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates and proteins are important for your body to obtain, and not consuming enough of these proteins can cause multiple problems for your body. Junk food is not substantial protein. Most junk foods contain high levels of fat, sugar, salt, and carbs. These things can cause weight gain, just like calories can too. But our bodies need calories for energy, if you obtain a lot of calories you have to burn them off. And the best way to do that is through physical activity.
31% of adults in America are obese. This is mostly due to an unhealthy diet, but it can also occur when one does not have enough physical activity in their daily routine, or because of inherited factors. Most people eat junk food or fast food because it is a cheaper, quicker alternative to cooking or purchasing expensive produce at a grocery store, or because they live in an area where there aren’t many grocery stores close by, these areas are called food deserts. These issues are also appearing with children and adolescents. These problems need to be addressed, the extra weight these young kids are carrying is in fact, a problem. It can cause health problems for children, just like it can for overweight adults. These problems were once considered adult issues, but now young children are being diagnosed with health issues such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. These children will most likley grow up to be obese adults.
People might say something like “What's so bad about junk food, it tastes good so how bad can it really be? ” Just because something tastes or looks good doesn't mean it's healthy, there are still ingredients in the food that you don't see. For example, a 12oz can of Mountain Dew contains 46 grams of sugar. I bet you wouldn't have known that just from looking at the soda. You don’t always know what you are putting in your body. If you look at the labels on cereal boxes, soda bottles, yogurt cups, protein bars, or pretty much any food item you purchase, you can see the amount of protein, sugar, ect., that your food contains. This is a good habit to have and a better way to know what you are putting in your body.
