The Importance Of Living On Purpose
By world standard, Jesus should be regarded a failure. No material possession, no wife, and died at 33, an age most people would term too early to die. Guess what? For living his purpose, more than two thousand years after his death, the world has not recovered from his impact. Millions of books have been written about him, thousands of songs have been composed to honor him. Every second, men all over the world bow down to pray to God in his name.
"To have sight and no vision is worse than being born blind." - Helen Keller
John C. Maxwell said that he observed that when a successful person is asked what has really helped them get to where they are in life, there is the high chance of them referring to having a goal, a dream, a mission, a purpose – a higher calling, something much more bigger and larger than them. Something that has been motivating them throughout the years to become what they have finally become. Tragically, our world is full of what I would call ‘mundane men’: people who see only what is immediate. They only reach out for things they can tangibly put their hands on. They go for the convenient. They never look beyond themselves, and never look at what could be. A mundane man can be seen in all strata of life – a truck driver, a bank president, or a school teacher. Mundane men can be found in every profession. A mundane man is really someone who lacks depth, because he lacks vision. The poorest person in the world is not the person who does not have a nickel. The poorest person in the world is the one who does not have a purpose. If a man does not have a dream – a goal and a purpose in life – he is not different from one who is lost, a man who will live a life that will not count.
A life lived on purpose may not share the glamour that comes with societal standard of success, but its impact would be felt by so many generations. In other words, if you live your God-given purpose, you may not necessarily be valued or appreciated by the people of your time, it may even be far after your demise, that you will become a point of reference to generations that will come years after you.
