Google: History and Growth of Innovating Technology Company

Have you ever wondered where you were twenty years ago and how you would find information on the world wide web. Well, it was harder to find information at a rapid rate, today with just a click we have access to the whole world. Who would have thought that twenty years later there would be this search engine that would make everyone’s life much easier. Thanks to Larry Page and Sergey Brin that became possible and that is how Google became in existence. This company is great because it made search engine that has simplified the world. Their humble beginning in a room of a university dorms to having companies in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle east. They became a great company because of their vision “Organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”(google.com).

The beginning, and present of Google

Starting a company is never easy, but for the founders of Google it all started in 1995 when they meet as student of Harvard University. They came up with an idea to build a program called BackRub and it was a search engine that was used at Harvard University and did very well later known as Google. There was a man that was interested in being an investor by the name of Andy Betcholsheim who wrote them a check for $100,000 to Google Inc. That is when officially Google was born. They finally moved out of the dorms, rented a house in Melo Park, CA, and made the garage the office of the new company Google. They continued to work hard, looking for more investors but that was not as easy as it seemed.

After they were turned down by many possible investor because they didn’t believe that it was a good investment since they were building a company from the garage of a house, they continued to work and with the helps of Betcholsheim the fundraised close to 1million dollars. The company continued to grow and add more employees at this time google brought on a few more employees to making it 8 employees. They had to move out of their garage base office and in to offices that were in Palo Alto in the early 1999. The company kept growing and growing that they had to once again move to what is now the home base of Google the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA. Mary and Sergey wanted to keep that small office feel that they created a kitchen and had so much fun that they had sport

Feedback tournaments in the Googleplex parking lot. Since then the company has grown to build great things for example, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Voice and a web browser called Chrome. In addition they have other sectors they have developed like youtube and became Android (mobile operating system), a smart speaker known as Google Home, and even a self-driving car. From the dorms of student from Harvard University the idea of a company that would change the world and that 300 million worldwide use today, that is how the company named google became in existence.

Moving-out of China

In my opinion moving Google out of China was the ethical thing to do if you want to make sure that you continue to provide the product and services that you promote to provide. The fact that they were limited to what the people in China were able to search due to censorship laws makes it hard for a company to succeed. For Google to find different solutions they had to move out. They ended moving to Hong Kong where there isn't as strict censorship laws and had all the China users direct their search to the Hong Kong search engine this way they weren't restricted to taking down certain images of websites.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Google greatest strength are advertising and web searching. They produce 70% of their revenue solely on advertising. They have a built their company off they're advertising which allows the company to continue growing and producing more things. They get paid by cost-per-click of each advertisement. Google was able to figure out what are the advertising trends and have used that to be the number one online advertising company. Web Searching is also one of their strengths that made them become the company they are today because of their view and innovation of allowing to see the world with just a click on the screen. With that said ones strength is also ones weakness, because google has to keep adverting trends going finding new ways to engage people into their advertisements. They get paid per ad click so if those click don't keep coming in they need to pick up the game and figure where they are lacking because their runner up Facebook is on their toes with advertising as well.

Growth and Threats

Since Google is completely dependable on the changes of technology , it where Google must find its opportunity for growth. Finding ways to increases their products they currently have or introducing new ones. The best opportunity they have would be to trend with more mobile users and get them to purchase mobile friendly products.

Threats for any company is not good because it reduces performance and business growth. The biggest threat is that tough completion, they are in a business that you need to keep producing new and better products then the next guy or they will take your place what is known as technology. In that field you have other companies that are big like google for example Yahoo, Apple and Facebook. Google has that threat because of their name and brand that they are has to keep producing for the business to continue to grow.

Being a Google

The reasons many would choose Google for a company they would love to work for re their corporate culture, Production and operations, and leadership. The one the stood out the most was leadership they way this company runs and its ethic code that most employees work by is astounding. From its humble beginnings and how they allow their employees to work twenty percent of their week time in their personal project is great. Some of googles own products came from employees that used their project time to create product that Google made into their many products they offer to the world. Secondly the they leadership want to keep the employees compterble by having Google cafe for employees to have healthy and easy accessible lunches. These are some of the stuff that stood out from googles leadership that makes google a great company to be employed by.

Google’s Economic State

Tow current economy is not affecting google current state. Google being the lead company in web search and adverting the economy hasn't really made a difference in their revenue. In the past years the economy has effected Google in a positive way, by increasing the demand in their services . By the looks of it doesn't seem that that is going to slow down for Google. On the contrary with new products and demands from technology and advertising Google’s economical state will continue to grow.

Google has proven to be a great innovating technology company, through out the years they have developed a search engine that has open the world to many with one click of a button. To having a great company culture that allows growth among their employees. Google is a company that started from nothing in a room of a dorm to owning their own Googolplex in the silicon Valley. A company that is considered number one in web search and advertising started as a thesis project for to Harvard grad student to this multi million dollar company. One of the largest fast growing companies in the world today we see how the hard work Larry Page and Sergey Brin was all worth it, with google companies indifferent countries around the world it safe to say that google is here to stay.
