Stephen was the former Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and his international best selling book is “A Brief History of Time”. He was a British scientist, professor and author who performed groundbreaking work in physics and cosmology, and his books helped make science accessible to everyone. Hawking had three kids whose names were Lucy, Robert, and Tim. He was also married three times.

In 1963, Hawking was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and was given two years to live. Even with Stephen being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease he still went on to Cambridge to become an intelligent researcher and Professional Fellow at Gonville and Caius College. From 1979 to 2009 he held the post of Lucasian Professor at Cambridge. Stephen Hawking is regarded as one of the most gifted theoretical physicists since Einstein. His classmates gave him the nickname “Einstein”. Writing with humility and humor, Hawking opens up about the challenges that confronted him following his diagnosis of ALS at age twenty-one. ALS is a nervous system disease that weakens muscles and physical function. Tracing his development as a thinker, he explains how the prospect of an early death urged him onward through numerous intellectual breakthroughs and talks about the genesis of his masterpiece.

Although generally considered the smallest of the 'Big Four' STEM publishers (Reed-Elsevier, Wiley-Blackwell, Springer, and Taylor & Francis), its Routledge imprint is claimed to be the largest global academic publisher within humanities and social sciences.

Taylor & Francis is a member of several professional publishing bodies including the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association, the International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers, the Association of Learned & Professional Society Publishers and The Publishers Association. In 2017, T&F bought Colwiz a specialist digital resource company after collaborating for several years. The group has about 1,800 employees in at least 18 offices worldwide. Taylor & Francis reported a mean 2017 gender pay gap of 24.2% for its UK workforce, while the median was 8%. The fact that the average pay for women is significantly worse than the median pay (compared to men's) shows that women are underestimated in the positions with the highest pay. However, Taylor & Francis and its agents and licensors make no representations or warranties whatsoever as to the accuracy, completeness or suitability for any purpose of the Content and disclaim all such representations and warranties whether express or implied to the maximum extent permitted by law. Contemporary Physics is of particular use to undergraduates, teachers, and lecturers. Readers should be able to understand the review without references to other materials. Contemporary Physics considers all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have been submitted only to Contemporary Physics, that they have not been published already, nor are they under consideration for publication or in press elsewhere. Contributions to Contemporary Physics should review important recent developments in physics and will be subjected to editorial screening and peer review by members of the editorial board.
