I chose to write about the Black Life Matters movement. The movement’s creation is what caught my attention, The African American population was going through a time where young black men were falling victim to police brutality and officers were not being held accountable for excessive force. Also, the movement was portrayed by the national media as a very hostile movement with riots and protesters not obeying the law of the land, it caught my attention.

“Black lives matter” a title that identified Alicia Garza, Patrice Cullors, Deray Mckesson, Opal Tometi, and many other names that won’t fit in this paper. After the death of Micheal Brown in Ferguson and Eric Garner in New York City “Black Lives Matter” appeared in the shape of a really strong protest within the African American community. Then it developed into a human rights movement more than a civil rights movement expressing the deep anger of the black people due to the dramatic event. The movement was led by the people cited above supporting the premise of freedom, liberation, and justice that black citizens deserve.

Black Life Matters is an organization advocating the right that people, especially African/Black Americans, should “stand against all forms of police brutality, excessive force, and profiling.” The organization was started due to the vast majority of unarmed African/Black American deaths and brutal beatings were conducted by police officers. The organization is bringing forth the issue that even African/Black citizens deserve to be treated humanely as others are. Protests have been ongoing as protestors (marching, displaying posters, etc.) are fed up with the corruption that lies with the state, local, and national governments. Black Lives Matter has been successful in making a statement and the organization has been most welcoming to everyone who dislikes the way police and government officials have handled the killings of unarmed civilians; however, it has been unsuccessful when it comes to making peace amongst the government and individuals.

West Points are undergoing investigation to show whether the “16 black, female cadets in uniform with their fists raised, violates military restrictions on political activity.” West Point forbids anyone to engage in any partisan political activity. While some may fear that these cadets are expressing gratitude towards the Black Lives matter organization, others are justifying that these women are just expressing female empowerment. It is highly unlikely that women are portrayed as strong and talented as men in today’s society, even throughout history.

So what are the goals of this movement?

“Black Lives Matter” believes in equality, fights to demolish the anti-black mentality rooting within the American society on a targeted level and the worldwide community on a broader level. To make a change and create a difference for the people, the organization had to define certain goals to present and build a clear perspective. The organization’s intention from the very beginning was and still is to connect black people from all over the world who have a shared desire for justice and are willing to gather and act together to affect the system and the communities. It was built upon the premise of freedom, liberation, and equality.

Given, the current high profile debate about this tenacious movement, it is quite surprising what the organization achieved in such a short time. The movement made its biggest influence on people through social media incorporating the #BlackLivesMatter and a lot of other social media appearances introducing themselves to the public in a very strong and determined way which helped them gain large popularity in a considerably short time.

In addition, BLM ( black lives matter ) continued to manifest its presence in the virtual world attracting more and more attention each day through THE PROVOCATEURS: A MASTER SERIES that is meant to be a creative TED-style video series establishing features from all fields to create a politically radical framework.

Plus, BlackLivesMatter is introducing a global network with the ambition of maximizing the impact of the BLM movement on the 2020 election by galvanizing the movement’s supporters and allies and building collective power.

I believe the movement gained a lot of speed when law enforcement officers used force to subdue a suspect and that force had a fatal result, and those law enforcement officers were not held accountable for their actions this outraged the black community. I believe members of the community felt that the law enforcement officers were above the law and that nothing they do has consequences. I also believe the movement lost momentum when they started protesting at family events and blocking traffic. We need to inform the children of what is happening in the world. The adults have to protect their children. I believe if the demands of the black lives matter movement are met, a lot of change will happen for the greater good of society, people who have a past criminal history could potentially go to school and have financial aid so they can one day find meaningful work and become functioning members of society.

On the other side, there have been dissenters to the view that only the black community is in the need of a fight for justice. At this point came forward the promising movement #AllLivesMatter as an opposing perspective dismissing the BLM movement claiming that it is eliminating a large population that deserves just as much respect and consideration. The question of whether black people are treated worse than others has caused so much debate after the start of the #BLM. In fact, this movement gives compelling reasons to argue that not only black lives matter but all lives due to having human rights supporting them along the way which left the debate inconclusive about what we should focus on more. #AllLivesMatter takes a middle-ground position on the racial equality debate and puts forward the need to pursue not only the needs and the claims of one race but of all at the same time giving them the same level of emphasis.

To portray the issue coherently, #AllLivesMatter reflects a view of racial impartiality and the desire to accomplish a society that is well accustomed to diversity.
