Pursue In Art Vs. Broken Reality
There are plenty of art jobs that many people would love to pursue to make their dream a reality. People like me, who maintain their passion for art, are going for art because that’s what we love to do best. Though, there are people who fear art isn’t suitable for well-paid jobs thus they’re against seeing art as a profession. Many individual should be encouraged to get art jobs, despite what they have to say because they should be enjoying what they love to do rather than suffering everyday for good payment. In society, they don’t consider art as jobs, but art is considered a profession like any other.
Believe it or not, art-related jobs had to do as much work as any profession you can think of. For example, “If I haven’t been able to convince you that a job in the arts is just as legitimate as a job in any “professional” work, then go watch the credits of a Marvel movie that you’ve recently seen. Then tell me there is no work in the arts”. Sarouji conveys that many individuals in the art-related jobs have collaborated with groups, who have put together a piece of work, whether it’s for a movie, poster, flyers, etc. He has mentioned Marvel as an example in their article because Marvel isn’t made by one person, Marvel was made by everyone’s collaborative work and effort that made it happen, thus they have made a lot of profit from their hard work and gets respected for not only making the movie happen but as well as making the movie as great as the Grammy Awards.
Besides the advantages of having art jobs, there are risks and consequences of having art jobs that got some people to reconsider their job career. For example, “They might have some skill, but they acknowledge that they are playing games of chance”. This article shows that they have the skill of a professional artist, but that doesn’t make them enough to be able to ask for a raise. Chances are, even if they make the minimum amount of money, they aren’t capable of making enough to pay rent. Not only they’re unable to pay rent, they won’t be able to live a healthy lifestyle thus they have no choice but to drop the career they love most in order to find a suitable job to be able to meet those living standards. Those who still linger to keep their passion for art wanted to keep believing art can keep them going and won’t stop them from loving art, but is a little too late for them to realize that art isn’t considered a job if they can not make much money out of the job they love.
Sad to say, we also have to face reality, knowing that if our passion doesn’t succeed, we will no longer be able to enjoy our love for art no longer. “Perhaps considering “artist” to be a job is a product of the same kind of neoliberal thinking that makes us think that being a parent is a job”. Lang conveys that we consider any labor that pays a job decently just as much as the responsibilities of a parent. Using a parent in their article is a good example in this argument because a parent is a job, but not a job where they get paid just because they’re a parent. A parent has to hold many responsibilities, while having a family as top prior, making sure they have what they need and provide support at the same time. Whereas for art, not only they have to provide their own supplies to use to create artwork, they have to put their time and effort to be satisfied with their work thus they have wasted a lot more money than they were supposed to.
Happiness isn’t all about the fame and glory, where you can buy happiness with money. Happiness is in the heart of your endeavoring passion for art, where you can express your passion to the world that matters most in our society. When I was younger, I never thought of the reason for pursuing jobs. I didn’t think I have to eventually know what I wanted to pursue back then, because of my child-ness. Unlike my peers, all I thought about is pursuing a career where not only I can enjoy my job, but be able to be stable with my living expenses as well. At one point I was thinking of pursuing drawing and painting, but I realized they don’t suit my taste. What sparks my interest, later on, is graphic design during middle school. I’ve seen much artwork that was well-done drawn for who knows how long and they inspire me to keep improving to get to their level. But even now, I’m happy for those who had the opportunity to collaborate with huge companies like Disney Animation or Pixar to make something great for everyone of all ages to enjoy. Like Sakimichan and Ross Draws, they may not be well-known in some areas, but they have a strong passion for art and I felt inspired by them.
The point of mentioning my past is to convey to never give up what you have been aiming for. You shouldn’t be feeling down over something that you’re capable of overcoming. Art careers should be a carefree job where you can look forward every day and never get tired of your job. Again, despite what many people have said against art jobs, art jobs are where, people like me, love to express our passion for art and it’s essential for us to find the perfect job we love to do best at. In general, whatever goal you are planning on achieving, you should do the best of your ability to put effort into your goal, and you will surely be able to achieve anything. No matter how much obstacle you have to go through, the suffering is worth it getting closer to your goal.
