Philosophy Or Nursing: Profession Or Nursing

I chose nursing as my profession because I have always naturally been a caregiver. Between the age of twelve to seventeen, I tended to the needs of my ill step-father. During this period, the thought of playing nurse never crossed my mind; in reality, caregiving was a way of life. While attending college, still undecided on what academics I wanted to focus on, I obtained the job position as a Pharmacy Technician and Caregiver. After gaining experience in direct patient care, I became aware that my childhood caregiving role had provided me with a unique ability to invest myself fully into the health and wellbeing of others, in the very same way that I had done with my step-father. My central goal is to gladly give nonjudgmental care to those in need while paying little respect to race, otherworldly convictions, way of life decisions, budgetary status or inability. Another reason I chose nursing as my profession is because the field of nursing is far from boring. There are so many different areas of specialties available, I truly appreciate the variety this profession offers.

I believe the core of nursing is to be an advocate for my patients consistently, and to provide sympathy, polished skill and mindfulness. Sympathy, to comprehend that my patients will have distinctive social beliefs. Demonstrate polished skill to acknowledge and accept those beliefs and treat them no differently. Mindfulness of social contrasts in which I might not have been acquainted with. I believe that the focus of nursing is providing patients with the attention they require, to demonstrate to them that we care for them and want the most ideal well-being for them. The focus of nursing is to have the patient leave the facility in better health than they had entered, and to educate them in preventative methods.

My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will figure out how to be progressively mindful of my cultural surroundings, for example, beliefs, morals, ethics, exemptions, and etc. This will empower me to provide better help to my patients. I will also learn to take accountability when it is or is not required. To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this about my patients: I am here to advocate for them. I am the mediator between the patient and the physician. To my patients’ families: I am here for my patient’s family to listen to their questions and concerns and answer them the best I can. I am also going to educate them. To my fellow health care professionals: No matter what credentials one has, we are all part of the same team. Although we might not always agree on certain things, our main focus should always be the patient first. To my own health: Never forget to take care of myself. We as nurses get so busy in taking care of dozens of patients a day, that we often forget that we need to nourish our mind, body and soul. My own health is vital, not only to myself but to all my patients as well. If I am sick, I cannot aid my patients to better health. With an inborn will to make a difference in the lives of people who are unwell, I believe that nothing can stop me from being successful in this career.
