Many people are habituated to always reaching for their devices without even thinking, which is the case for me as well. Furthermore, I will be discussing any patterns that exist and how these online activities shape us as a media consumer. After looking back at my web-log which consisted of me keeping track of my online activities for 5 consecutive days, I have noticed that most of my online activities are routine. The device I use to access my social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat) is my smartphone. The reason I choose my smartphone only to access my social media are because I find it convenient since I am logged in all the time. To use my account, all I have to do is click the app and I am online right away. I do not like using my laptop for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (and not Snapchat since you cannot access it on a laptop/PC) because I always have to log in and out always. This is because my family uses my laptop as well and I do not want them to have access to my accounts.

The time I am most active online on social media is right when I wake up and before I sleep when I am in bed. I always check my Instagram timeline randomly throughout the day as well. I only use Facebook when I get an notification in a group chat I am apart of with my friends and if the topic interests me or if someone mentions me. Otherwise, I do not communicate much online on social media with my friends. Throughout the day, most of my time is spent playing Xbox online with my friends. Playing Xbox is my favorite thing to do when I have free time, and I can spend hours playing during the day and at nighttime which keeps me up late. When I am playing Xbox, I glance over at my phone many times to see if I got any notifications, but I only actually use it sometimes. I also watch a TV series, How to Get Away with Murder, which I stream on my laptop. I watch this TV series randomly as there are different timings I watch this show throughout the day. When I am watching the TV series, I do not use my smartphone. Also, I stream sports (basketball, sometimes soccer) on my smart TV. I watch at least one playoff basketball game every day if it is on, and do not usually use my phone as I am with my family watching it and interacting with them.

My social media usage usually stays the same with different schedules, as I always have time in the morning, throughout the day, and at night to access my social media. My online activity only changes for watching the TV series as I tend to sacrifice this when I have less time during the day since I find the other activities I do more interesting. My mood does not change my online activity either. It is evident that the world is moving towards a digital world. A pattern that is noticed is that majority of people use smartphones. With these smartphones, you can access all your social media accounts, check your emails, and browse the web. I have gone towards this trend as well as I am a heavily relying on my smartphone now. I can use my smartphone for everything, as it does everything a laptop does but is easier to carry everywhere. Being more active on online activities has caused me to be more sociable, which is the case for others too. Social media has made my friendships stronger as well. It is evident in my web-log that I spend a lot of time playing Xbox with my friends, which has strengthened my friendship.

Most of my day, like many others, is spent on online activities. Technology is a very important part of everyone’s lives as the future is moving towards the digital world. I catch myself looking at my phone many times during the day, and I see that with my brother, cousins, and random people everywhere. Also, going through and reading the module participation responses, many people had trouble dealing with no phone or Wi-Fi. I found myself looking at my phone a lot then realizing I had no Wi-Fi or data when I was on my trip. Everyone is habituated to using their devices everyday and has become a daily routine. In conclusion, it is evident that the world is moving towards a digital world as technology is apart of our everyday lives. I spend most of my day on a device using online activities. It is not a bad thing only as it is proven to be a good as well. It makes friendships stronger and causes people to be more sociable. The negative effect is that people rely on technology during their everyday lives. People do not like when they are without Wi-Fi or no data and get bored. It feels like a big loss when an individual cannot use their phone, as it was evident in the module responses and from personal experiences. The trend is using online devices for mostly everything as it is more efficient and convenient.
