When selecting a career, many seek jobs that are gratifying and enjoyable so they will not be complaining to go to work everyday. In spite of the fact that making money in order to support oneself is exceptionally imperative, the want to induce up within the morning and go to work everyday must be there as well. Finding a career that is enjoyable does not continuously ensure being monetarily stable and a high paying compensation does not promise pleasant work. In 2005, Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple delivered a Commencement speech to Stanford graduates telling his life journey and how his passion lead him to prosperity and happiness. Following one’s dream is imperative to keep in mind when finding a career but there must be a sense of reality as well.

In Steve Job’s “Do What You Love” speech, he emphasizes the significance of an individual following what they cherish in life and hoping it will all work out later in life. Individuals confront difficulties in a lifetime but must realize that it is important to center in on their passions and desires since work can take up a lot of time. People cannot sit around idly living beneath another person’s shadow. Time is not interminable and death will refresh the old with a new generation. Faith is an important trait to have when finding a passion and having confidence that every dot will connect is vital. Steve Jobs tells three life stories while speaking to Stanford graduates encouraging them to find and follow their passions. Throughout each of his stories, he explains the paths he was lead down during his life. Jobs addresses that his biological mother gave him up for adoption to a set of adoptive parents. Before giving him away, she demanded that the adoptive parents must send Steve to college and the set of parents must also graduate college. She wanted Steve to grow up healthy and in the right hands but unfortunately the parents did not graduate but they promised that they would send her son to college. As Jobs is telling his stories, he apprised the audience that he had a rough childhood and he wished to be in college someday. Jobs eventually did end up going to college but “After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all workout OK” (Jobs paragraph 5). Jobs didn’t want to waste his parents money on expensive tuition when he had no interest in the mandatory courses he had to take. After dropping out he faced many hardships such as, “I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned Coke bottles for the 5 cent deposits to buy food with…” (Jobs paragraph 6). Through all of his challenges, he began to follow his interests and instincts. Dropping out of college would end up being the best choice Steve Jobs has ever made.
