Diet plays a major role in determining the person’s overall health and body functioning. The type of the food intake by a person have a direct effect on the person’s metabolism rate, hormonal system and sometimes the physiology. The overall diet is broadly divided into two types, vegetarian diet and non vegetarian diet. The vegetarian diet can be further classified into three types, pure vegetarian that includes intake of only plant products, other is lacto vegetarian that includes intake of plant products along with the dairy products and the third type is lacto ovo-vegetarian in which eggs along with milk products and plant products can be eaten. There has always been a quest for finding the most reliable diet pattern among these two. Both the diet have their own merits and demerits. Non vegetarian diet such as chicken, meat and sea food have high amount of protein and vitamin B 12 in them. High protein content help in strengthening and developing the muscles and also increase the stamina whereas vitamin B 12 being very vital play role in development of RBCs and maintain good health of nerves and brain. 

The sources of vitB12 in vegetarian diet are very less which lead to high risk of vitaminB deficiency. Fish food have prominent amount of essential oil called omega3 in them which is necessary for mental health, proper brain function and proper development of brain during pregnancy. But on the other hand non veg food contain high saturated fat and salts increasing risk of various body disorders. charred meat contain some carcinogen in them. But vegetarians consume a variety of vitamins and mineral in their diet. also their diet have abundant fibre in it which decrease risk of constipation and other digestive tract ailments. consumption of vegetarian diet decrease risk of colon cancer, diabetes, hypertension, blood pressure problems, heart diseases, cholesterol imbalance. 

The weight and body mass index (BMI) of vegetarians is found to be less than that of non vegetarians. according to several researches, the duration of periods is shorter in case of vegetarian females. Females consuming vegetarian diet are found to have earlier menopause than those having non veg diet. certain hormonal based period disturbances are also more evident in vegetarian females. The vegetarians are also found to be iron deficient as their diet have low level of iron. Meat products with abundant iron leads to increase iron reserves and high haemoglobin level in their consumers.. So according to various researches and studies both diet have their own importance and a new form of diet called flexitarian diet which encourages consumption of mostly plant products while allowing occasional consumption of meat ie: once or twice in a week or so on.
