My First Day of College Experience
The day of which I was keenly waiting from my High School days was just a few hours away from me! what will I say! it actually was my dream and Was about to get true. I tried to reach the Institute Early morning but unfortunately, there was strike call given by separatist leaders and I travelled by foot covering the distance in the hope that someone might give me a lift, fortunately, I got a lift and finally reached the Institute with a big charm on my face.
My first day at National Institute of technology Srinagar was on August 8th 2017. At around 8. 30 in the morning, I reached the college's physics laboratory where my first class was scheduled according to the timetable. Strange people going in and out through different rooms in a single lane surprised to see well finish furniture of the classrooms over which I stared for a long time.
I was shivering as I was in the new world with new people whom I had never met before but somehow I managed that courage to speak with people around and with the passage of time few students who were in the laboratory gathered and I also joined the group where we introduce each other and finally I made acquaintance with few of them.
There was another dilemma in my mind going on throughout that passage of time, was of the evil, popularly known as 'Ragging'. I am a shy type of person and this ill act makes me more vulnerable to fumbles, that thing was running in my mind that someone will insult me, I would have never like that. So, preparing my mind for that was a big challenge for me.
That day after the first class we went to attend the mathematics class. In the meantime, we were discussing our academics. You know things become more interesting when you are discussing something and you have no idea about that. Following other students, I reached the lecture hall, attended my first Maths class in the institute. Although it was less mathematical rather more introductory. During the lunch break, I was sitting in the park, looking at the beautiful flowers with different colours and odour. I was thinking to know more about this institute. It was my first day here in the college I even could not remember the way to lecture hall, I was confused about how to picturise this whole area. The College Campus Area is around 100 acres. To cover this much area in a single day was not my cup of tea.
During this phase ofmesmerisation of mind, few classmates who actually later became my best friends looked at me and came in front of me. They told me what are you doing? My reply was simple, dear, I am sitting here. Then they also sit near the trunk of chinar tree and I also accompanied them and start interacting with each other, throwing lame jokes at each other and hence felt comfortable with each other's behaviour. In the meantime, some senior students came in and started questioning, we also replied normally to their questions it was rather an interactive session with them from my point of view but at the same time other fellow students start shouting on them because one of the senior misbehaved with him and he was too responsive so he could not keep it inside.
In the end, they convinced us that these types of things happen because of misunderstanding, and the irony is that they promised us to help at each and every moment which was unbelievable. I thank almighty for saving me from the act of which I was scared.
After the lunch break, it was time for another class, so I followed the same path and reached the lecture hall. In the class, the chemistry sir first introduced himself and then later came near each and every student for the same.
In this way, my first day at college came to an end. Obviously it was full of fun, enthusiasm, enjoyment and more about making friend whom I never met before. With this began a routine of my life which I guess I have to follow for rest of my life.
