This paper is to examine whether “ impatient individuals human capital investment patterns are more likely to exhibit dynamic inconsistency than are their patient counterparts’ respondents” (Cadena, Brian C., and Benjamin J. Keys. 2015.) The role of impatience through the human capital form, which is important for an individual's decision. One who is impatient is more likely to fail educationally and are not personally capable of completing. Those who are impatient are prone to dropping it out of school and not seeking a higher degree as well as having financial droughts. Through NLSY, data is collected and shown that most individuals who have the condition of being impatient are more likely to drop out of school with a year or less left to complete.
Methods
The study is based on individuals with low to no patience. It's brought about to collect data in order to review and study some end results from the “condition”. The data was to investigate if the alternatives could explain the differences with individuals who are patient versus impatient in accordance to dropping out from school. Through the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY), data is examined in the hypothesis to identify impatient individuals. Individuals were identified about being impatient based on the survey during 1980-1985. The interviewers based them as impatient or restless. The NLSY data is used to provide measuring of an individuals desire to continue to go to school and further their education or even financial means. Individuals are asked to answer about the furthest they would like to go and gain for their education.
The panel conducted gives the opportunity to track the decisions in order of the enrollment providing a behavior indicator that they desire.
Key results/Findings
Findings showed that those individuals who’s are impatient have longer unemployment due to short run impatience. Those who are impatient are less likely to have bank accounts, prone to smoke, excessive drinking, and less likely to complete commitments. Impatient individuals are 50 percent more likely to drop out of high school regardless if they have a set outlook to finish.
In conclusion, individuals who are impatient are less human capital, which is due to inconsistency. Increases the likelihood of one dropping out of high school or college. Those with time inconsistency are likely to drop out without completing a degree after having already enrolled oneself in a higher education program. Also, those who begin academic programs are not always informed about costs and benefits which can also lead them to drop out. Impatient individuals are also likely to experience changes financially. The framework implies that impatient individuals should begin work careers with low levels of education.
Short run impatience show greater regret, which shows their disappointments in themselves and their choices. A question pertaining to the article notes whether impatience also captures ADHD. ADHD also has a significant effect on capital human production. Though HDHD may be seen to be hereditary, it is not yet been the focus to be caused by e failure of self discipline. Therefore it is good to try to determine whether the individual is impatient or has ADHD. NSLY has not yet determined whether and individual has AD, leaving them with no I control over the data.
