John Michael Green is one of the most well known author, he relates to many teens around the world and helps gives them a voice. Multiple novels of John’s have became best seller. His work has inspired uncountable amounts of people, from teenagers to adults. In this bibliography you will get a glimpse into the life of John Green.
August 24, 1977 Mike and Sydney Green became parents to John M. Green. John was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Soon after John was born him and his parents moved to Michigan than later on to Birmingham, Alabama where his brother Hank Green was born. John Green went to Glenridge Middle School and Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida.
During middle and high school he experienced bullying, “I’d just wait in fear of that happening again because I didn’t feel like a person when it happened” (John Green Interview). He would later use these experiences as a way to connect to his readers. After a while, they moved to their final destination, Orlando, Florida. Later, he attended a school just outside of Birmingham, Alabama called Indiana Springs, He graduated from High School in 1995.
John M. Green went to college at Kenyon College, he graduated in 2000 with a double major in English and religious studies. John Green had always wanted to be a writer, ever since he was just a child. Before John published his first novel, he worked as a Publishing Assistant and Production Editor for Booklist; he would also do radio essays for a radio station. During this time period, he was writing his first novel ‘Looking For Alaska’. While writing his first novel he was in a relationship with what is now his wife. He met his wife at Indiana Spring (High School), they got engaged about a month after he published ‘Looking For Alaska’. ‘Looking For Alaska was published March 3rd, 2005; John and His wife, Sarah, got engaged April 22nd, 2005.
After his debut novel (Looking For Alaska) was published it won the 2006 Michael L. Printz Award. In 2006 John released ‘An Abundance of Katherines’ his second novel. He wanted to express many things in the novel, “I’m really interested in why we are all so obsessed with mattering-why people in our historical moment are fixated on fame and notoriety and leaving a legacy.” ‘An Abundance of Katherines’ did not win any awards, but it was a runner up for the Printz award and a finalist for Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
In 2007 John and his brother, Hank, began their youtube channel vlogbrothers. As they began working as a team they accomplished many things, they have done many leisure activities including VidCon, Charities, Crash Courses, etc. In 2008 John published ‘Paper Towns’, his third novel. By 2009 it reached No.5 on The New York Times Bestseller list for children's books. Over the next few years he co-authored several novels. In 2012 he released ‘The Fault In Our Stars’, the novel suburbs at No.1 on the New York Times bestseller; it was also chosen as TIME Magazines #1 Fiction Book of 2012. His latest novel ‘Turtles All The Way Down’ was released in 2017, he has released multiple poems in 2018 but no novels.
John Green has not given any hints that he is writing or planning on releasing a book any time soon. John has written around 8 novels. His worked has impacted the english literature in abounding amounts. Throughout John’s life he has faced many struggles but he could always use writing as an escape, his struggles helped him become the astounding writer he is today.
