Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio as the Figure of Admiration

Since the beginning of mankind, people have been looking for someone to look up to. Currently there are different stereotypes of whom people admire most. Young girls usually idolize other strong, independent women who seek for equality and respect like Emma Watson, Angelina Jolie and Viola Davis. Many boys look up to successful sportspeople, technicians and movie stars like Steve Jobs, Lionel Messi and Serena Williams. Of course, regarding these statements, there are many exceptions and ideologies, where people have their own opinions and views on what and who a role model should be. A role model will shape the way we think in the present times so that we would understand what are the favorable values in life, what goals we are suppose to try to achieve. To me, an idol is someone who is current, accepting and has done greater good for the world without waiting for anything in return. To this day, the person who fits my boundaries and is mostly admired by me is none other than Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio.

To start with, Leonardo DiCaprio is not your every day person, he is an American actor and a producer, born in Los Angeles, California, who started his career at the age of five. His acting career began with some small roles in television series such as “The New Lassie” (1989) and “Roseanne” (1988) where he had caught some attention from producers. Ever since that, his career grew rapidly he got major roles in movies that have traveled all around the world like “Titanic” (1997), “Catch Me If You Can” (2002) and “Gangs Of New York” (2002).

Now Leonardo DiCaprio is considered to be one of the most known actors to this day and by some he is even believed to be the fifth best actor ever. This actor’s success in life has given Leonardo DiCaprio the ability to do enormous acts of philanthropy all around the globe for which I admire him a lot. Along with his mother, L. DiCaprio donated $35 000 to “Leonardo DiCaprio Computer Center” library. Leo also has helped Haiti by donating $1 million to relief efforts after the destructive earthquake in 2010. Leonardo DiCaprio also showed moral and financial support to the LGBT community, many children charities and expressed his support and acceptance to all sexualities. Due to these generous deeds, I believe that Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio is worth following, he has proven that with great fame and success comes great responsibility of helping those in need of support. Thus, Leonardo DiCaprio is an incredible role model.

Another reason why I see this actor as an idol, and probably the main reason, is for his attitude towards the environment. Nature is a huge part of my life, it is the place where I always feel welcomed, safe and peaceful and these days there are many problems regarding our environment. I feel like our humankind is responsible for cleaning the mess that we have caused by ourselves, the pollution has been becoming worse annually, global warming is being ignored by many humans to this day, more and more natural scenery is being annihilated. Nature is a huge part of L. DiCaprio’s life, too. He has been donating a huge amount of money to various campaigns, charities that protect nature. The actor has strong feelings about the environment, especially global warming which he stated on the night when he was awarded with the Oscar (bustle.com, Kadeen Griffiths, 2016).

“Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this. For our children's children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.” Leonardo DiCaprio believes that we are responsible for our future and thus we should fix it by ourselves, he also tries to encourage people to use renewable energy sources. Talking about nature he also cares about animals, the actor is vegetarian and even rumored to be vegan. He donates to different animal charities and sometimes he helps to make an actual difference (people.com, Alexis L. Loinaz, 2016) “World Wildlife Fund – which has been working in tandem with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation – and the Global Tiger Forum have announced that the world’s wild tiger population has increased for the first time in more than a century.” So, Leonardo DiCaprio is my role model because of his good deeds about nature and how close he feels to it.

To conclude, I would like to say that we all have different idols. We choose our role models whos life style and ideas they spread live up to our expectations. That is why we get easily attached and overtake their values. My idol is Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, due to his love for everyone, acceptance, good will and passion when it comes to the environment.
