The Challenges in the Leadership School: Stepping out of the Comfort Zone
I applied to leadership school and I was told it was going to easy but boy was I wrong. As soon we got on the bus things turned for worse. First, all phones were confiscated as we got on the bus then we to be silent on the bus ride we couldn't fall asleep or we would get a “4301 dispensary slips”. When we arrived atthe national guard base in the middle of nowhere, we were immediately called to attention and told to get in formation.
Then we marched with all our luggage to our barracks we were going to use for the weekend which had 2 rows of 6 of rooms each had 2 bunk beds with small closet at the head of the bed. Oncewe got into the barracks we were assigned bunk mates and assigned rooms. After we got our stuff somewhat unpacked we were “taught” how to make hospital corners for our beds and i couldn’t make them if my life depended on it. So after that we were told the rules andlights out was at nine. As sunrise for the next day is when the hard work started with some physical training. We Started with 30 burpees, 40 jumping jacks, 40 push ups and 40 sit ups then finallya mile run which made all my inside want to go outside of my body. Also the weather didn't help any it so hot you probably able to cook a egg on the black top with million bugs flying all round your head. However there was some funwe played capture flag in a huge field some other team building games.
We Also had to 40 drill sequence. As lights out drew closer me and my bunkmate got selected as first shift of night watch. So are responsibility was to make sure everyone was quiet at lights out and went to bed. Another thing we had to be ready for fire drills and if something was to happen we were to make sure everyone is out and for us to be last ones out. Also we were supposed to write down everything that happened. Finally from arriving to P. T. to night shift duty and all little things in between this event shaped me by making me step out of the comfort zone.
